The pen is mightier then the sword

Book club today. We eat  in  a restaurant and discuss a best seller. Gets me out of my comfort zone of  reading  classics and  gives me perspective about  what  is out there.  We have books all over the house.. in every room of the house which  ultimately find their way off the shelves and into the kids hands...Just imagine if  we raised a generation of readers?!  How much smarter the world would be if they read Dostoevsky instead of playing Call of Duty. How much more imaganitive our planet would be if they understood CS Lewis instead of   postings on facebook.  How much kinder we all would be  if we contemplated Mother Teresa's Simple Path instead of  Jersery Shores Path.?  I try and glorify reading to them, the merits ,benefits, knowledge gained....My youngest son said, "Well, I guess  it  has  to  be easy at first, like in your book club.  You guys read easy books."  I said, "what?  Why do you think that?"  he said," I can tell by the titles, The Help, Room, She Was, Little Bee, Into the Wild... "
