some words are tish

Tish. This may be the most commonly used word in our house. "Hey tishface." or "Tish! I am late!" What does tish mean?  Rearrange the letters and it  becomes a curse word., that starts with s. The fact that this word is ignored  but  practically sanctioned in our house gives the kids endless glee because they can say it! Now,every year the middle school has a huge dodge ball tournament. It is a big deal for the kids, the whole school goes to watch, the kids make shirts etc ..., My  son comes home from school and tells me, "Mom, I got called to the principals office today." And I said, "why? For what?" (I don't think this boy was ever in  trouble in his life. He was the defending dodge ball captain and picked the team name this year) he told me the story," I got called into his office and I was standing in front of his desk and he was sitting, and he looked at me and said, " What is all this commotion about your team name, Tishwreckers? What is a Tishwrecker?"
And I said, "Oh! What did you say?"  he said, and so seriously, "I just spelled it." And what did he say?,"Well,.. you will have to get another name. You can leave now."( Probably wanted him out of the office so he could burst out laughing) . This provided a great channel to demonstrate the power of words. I told them, "Look how important words are. Remember in Immaculees book, Left To Tell, she explains  during the Rwandan genocide the Tutsis were labeled cockroaches? The  men would say,' Let's kill  those cockroaches!'  It is easier  to justify  actions if you change  your  mental image by using words. .., fetus instead of baby.....How different is that? Dehumanizing  by changing the name allows for behavior that wouldn't be accepted by your conscience."  I think those tishheads understood what I was saying.
