Yesterday was my sons 15th birthday. How different boys birthdays are than girls birthdays! The boys aren't preoccupied with having a birthday party, who would be invited, where to have it etc...they don't even seem to care one bit . Yet it was my daughters 15 birthday that changed my whole attitude about life! I remember when she was a freshman, trying like every other freshman to meet new friends and keep old friends...you know that whole high school scene,. One of the popular girls was having a big birthday party, ..and my daughter did not make the invite list. She came home upset, and I was upset too. My daughter said "Oh well, I guess she didn't think I was a good friend." I was so mad at that girl! What! how could she! All those time she slept here and ate here. All those rides I gave her! Even all the times I cheered for her! I was so mad I couldn't even fall asleep! Two months later, my daughter is having her birthday party...and she is inviting this girl. I said "No way. You can't invite HER! she didn't invite you." Then this 15 year old girl said, "Well, if I didn't invite her than I would be acting like the very thing you are mad about. She is my friend.. she's in my group..I don't want to act the way she did." I was too embarrassed and confused to respond .. because I knew we tiger moms must give our children every advantage in life! It was only after her stark assessment I realized what those advantages are.... explain the vices : pride, greed, lust, anger, gluttony, envy, sloth... explain , LIVE, and teach them to LIVE the virtues: humility, mercy, chastity, meekness, self-control, love of God and neighbor, courage.....
BTW , the girl came to the party.
Was that girl invited to her wedding though? :)
