Thanks for visiting me and for your sweet comment! I enjoyed looking over some of your posts! We share some of the same values and ideas for children. You have a lovely family! We've seen two daughters married, so I can relate to your post. She made a beautiful bride! Enjoy your day!
I totally agree with you... tv is a time sink. It usually adds no value (exceptions are the occasional documentary or quality program), the news is utterly depressing, and most every prime time show advocates using crass language, infidelity and/or loose morality, homosexual lifestyles and very tasteless humor. (But I admit I do like to watch hell's kitchen and an occasional americal idol... purely for entertainment's sake. I am not perfect lol!)
So true! TV has even ruined most sports, which was the last hope for pure, live, unscripted human drama - turning it into self-centered, profit-seeking, commercially interrupted "entertainment."
Oh yes, sportsfan I totally forgot about Sports!! I personally think football is so boring... my husband on the other hand would die without his sports. I guess we can't deprive our loved ones from their sports! According to the husband this is a great escape for him and that's just fine with me. I guess tv does have some merit...
I'm in agreement with you regarding the t.v. Unfortunately, my Mr. B does not agree with me, thus we still have one. I've really enjoyed some of your posts & I look forward to visiting again. Thanks for your comment and choosing to follow my blog. I hope it is a blessing to you. Mrs.B
Ha! Makes me giggle. I love it! I also think you'd love our "freebie" giveaway to help others see more beautiful on the blog today. In the spirit of not watching TV, I have no doubt this pay it forward opportunity is right up your alley!
Absolutely correct! There is no reason to watch it. I stopped watching TV about five or six years ago. It is amazing how much time I found to do other things....like sit in front of the computer for hours!! Silly me, trading one time waster for another. I think it means that I just like to sit and do nothing!lol!
Thanks for stopping by my to say. I am now a follower. I could live without the TV, but my husband can't. He is a sports nut and loves to watch them all. So I do stuff while he is watching sports, unless it is a game I am interested in.
I'm not a big TV-watcher, but I do enjoy a couple of shows that I follow every season with Hubs. We would DVR them and watch them together at bedtime. That said, the TV stays on at our house, I think for background noise. We decided to let go of cable about 2 months ago, and it's kind of nice to have peace and quiet around the house. We have become big Red Box customers, and everyone seems pretty happy with that. Loving the increased board game usage and kids playing knee football every day in the loft. We got rid of internet too, although that's a moot point because we all have it on our cell phones anyway. Do you still have TV at home, or did you nix it altogether?
Thanks for linking up with the Getting to Know You hop! I don't watch much "TV", but I do so love my Netflix. Until I became disabled, I never watched TV. Now, I don't have a lot better than I can do lol.
We don't do TV either, but we do enjoy Netflix as well. I don't watch much, and when I do I am always busy doing something else. It turns into more of background noise than anything else :)
Thanks for visiting today! I'm glad your visit brought me here because I have really enjoyed some laughs and tugs of the heart while reading a number of your posts! Peace...
There are so many wonderful things to do in the world and they do not require you to watch TV. I still do watch a little or have for background noise and I am still curious to see what is happening and love films, but a lot of it is poor quality. Thanks for you visit, speak soon. Nina
I do watch tv- but it isn't a big part of my life. I watch shows here and there and I do enjoy a good movie. I spend most of my spare time reading or on the computer. :) I imagine life without tv would be pretty peaceful.
That's funny I stopped watching TV for myself 10 yrs ago as well when my daughter was born.Well that is unless one considers Dora, Thomas, Angelina, Barney etc as watching tv. A few more kids later I have never regained control of the television and I don't think I'm missing much.
We are coming up on 8 years being TV free. NO REGRETS at all. We do rents videos on netflix and redbox on occasion so we have a TV we just do not have "channels".
I know I come aross a tad harsh, but my two answers to anyone whining about not having enough time for something are, "Watch less tv" & "Get up earlier." Dear Lord, I've become my mother!
You haven't missed anything, that's for sure. I don't watch much tv anymore either, except the occasional cooking show or Little House on the Prairie at night. For background noise I prefer to hear uplifting music. As another commentor stated, the programming has become disgusting. I can see no reason for allowing that trash in my house, with my permission.
I love TV...some of it. But really, who has the time? We DVR a bunch of our favorite programs but I haven't seen most of them because I'm constantly on the go and when I do sit down to watch TV I'm often snoring within 15 minutes.
LOL! Hi there! Thanks for stopping by my ZOO blog! I hear you on the TV issue, we went down to the ten dollar basic cable package...and netflix for some homeschool documentaries! I couldn't care less what goes on with American Idol or Glee or any of that TRASH...
Isn't that the truth!! It is just pitiful and they charge us! Thanks for the follow and now I'm your newest follower. Hope you have a faboulous Sunday!
I have a coworker who stopped watching during the Gulf War. There is definitely more on now than there was 10 years ago. I tend to be on my computer most of the time though so the tv is almost background noise :)
You are probably one of the strongest people I know! LOL I watch WAY too much TV. I'm completely and hopelessly addicted to it! I wish I could be that strong, because I'm sure I'd have a ton more time on my hands.
Lisa P.S. Thanks for linking up to the GTKY blog hop! :)
We basicaly stopped watching tv a long time ago. We still watch movies. Unfortunately, I think I've replaced that lost time with the internet.. At least the internet is QUIET!
When we got married 12 years ago we decided not to watch programed television in our house because we knew that it would absorb our time and I'm so glad that we did. We didn't know we would have 7 children but God did and that's why he worked on our hearts and minds this way. God is good!
Funny. I rarely watch TV, but have a couple shows lately that I really like. One is Justified and I found BBC America up in my super high channels, and Absolutely Fabulous is back. Love those Brits;) Nice to find you through Sunday Social Hop.
I stopped watching TV in high school and kept it up for over 30 years. As of late, I've been watching it to slow down, a kind of therapy. It has it's place but I need to make sure I don't totally waste my evenings.
gosh, i can think of tons of reason to watch tv. but you have to find the right show or shows to watch. i enjoy getting together with friends & watching a great flick. but i guess if i had as many kids as you do ... i would definitely not have enough time for tv. i wonder how you get everything that you need done around the home. you must be a wonder woman. ha. ha!! do you read? or sew? are you crafty? exercise? (:

ReplyDeleteI'm down to about 3 shows a week. I agree that some of what is on now is just dreadful. I can't stand the reality stuff!
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree, the only thing I watch is the news. None of the shows are interesting enough for me to watch every week :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the follow and the lovely comments. Now I know who to ask for mommy advice :) Following you now.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the follow. Following you back

ReplyDeleteHaha! I was looking for the content for a few seconds when I realized that it was just one line. I love it though!
ReplyDeleteThe thing is I really love the TV! I love shows like American Horror Story and NCIS, so I'm afraid I have quite a few reasons to watch.
I was sitting in my favourite armchair busily doing nothing.
ReplyDeleteI was asked: What’s on TV this morning?
My sense of humour replied: Dust!
Well … that’s one way of ensuring the silent treatment I suppose. And having to make one’s own breakfast too!
God bless.
why did you stop watching? I watch tv at times.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up on 2nd Glance Saturday!
ReplyDeleteI have a coworker who stopped watching during the Gulf War. There is definitely more on now than there was 10 years ago. I tend to be on my computer most of the time though so the tv is almost background noise :)
ReplyDeleteI'm going to stop watching it, too.
ReplyDeleteI could never give up TV completely, I enjoy it. I do remember in school they always had a week where you had to give it up. I could do a week. Maybe.
ReplyDeleteLOL That must be the shortest blog entry I've ever seen. Good for you for getting rid of your TV! It's mostly a waste of time.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could.... thanks for joining us at welcome to the weekend hop :)

short , simple, true!
ReplyDeleteWe basicaly stopped watching tv a long time ago. We still watch movies. Unfortunately, I think I've replaced that lost time with the internet.. At least the internet is QUIET!
ReplyDeleteI hardly ever watch tv. Hubs, on the other hand, leaves it on...even while mowing the grass! It's ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteHah! Short but sweet. I agree, I wish my husband would let me get rid of ours.
ReplyDeleteWhen we got married 12 years ago we decided not to watch programed television in our house because we knew that it would absorb our time and I'm so glad that we did. We didn't know we would have 7 children but God did and that's why he worked on our hearts and minds this way. God is good!
ReplyDeletetrue, there's so much junk on TV. I'll admit that through our rabbit ears I watch a little bit here and there.
ReplyDeleteFunny. I rarely watch TV, but have a couple shows lately that I really like. One is Justified and I found BBC America up in my super high channels, and Absolutely Fabulous is back. Love those Brits;) Nice to find you through Sunday Social Hop.
