My Favorite Lenten Story

For Lent, my 10 year old son said he would give his youngest brothers a bath every night. The brothers ages were 12 months, 2 years old and 3 years old. I said great! You could just sit on the bathroom floor and get your homework done while the boys play in the tub. Me and dad could get the dishes done and the kitchen cleaned. This is a win-win for our whole house! About 35 days into Lent I said to my 10 year old  son, "The boys hair doesn't look right. What kind of shampoo are you using?"  He looked at me and replied, "Was I supposed to wash their hair?"

  6. Too funny! That is so nice that he was willing to help, what a gift to everyone! I'm seven years older than my younger sister so I helped my Mom a lot when she was little, now that we're grown-ups we still share that bond...it's a beautiful thing :-)

  8. Hi, I just noticed you are following my blog, thank you. I have been skipping around yours and really like what I see! I am amazed that you have the time to blog! We are Mennonites living in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Where do you live? Gosh, you have a LOT of followers for the amount of time you have been blogging, but I can understand why...you have the ability to say a whole lot in just a sentence or so!

  15. Love it! It's the thought that counts though! I've been reading through the things that friends have said they are giving up and found it frustrating that the point was simply to give up something for a few days and then resume the normal. I always thought it was about becoming a better person overall and that made me not interested in participating in Lent (been non-practicing for many years now), until my aunt suggested adding a positive contribution instead (volunteering or random acts of kindness)and this made so much more sense to me.

Thanks for visiting me! I've been reading your posts this morning. Delightful!
Your story reminds me of my youngest daughter. She was just beginning to wash her own hair. I thought it looked funny and asked her if she washed her hair... kept saying she did. When I asked yet again, this time asking her what shampoo she used....she said she didn't use any shampoo!!!

  75. That is funny for sure. I have to remind my boys to wash their hair often. (Of course, they are not use to having hair on a regular bases. Their Dad normally shaves it off.)

    ReplyDelete
  76. hahahahaa!!! That is so funny, that is like when I ask my son (who is 12) if he's brushed his teeth, I've learned I have to be specific, and ask "Did you brush your teeth tonite?" otherwise if it's been a few days, he will still say "yes". "Oh, you mean today?"
