Boys Will Be Boys. Help!

Everyone could see and hear the constant flurry of activity from the houses being built behind our house.  We could watch everything from our patio. The workers would quit about 5 pm and all would be quiet and still again.  My boys were 6 and 8, and asked if they could go play in the dirt piles.  I guess that would be OK.  About an hour later my 6 year old son runs in the house yelling for our attention, (he is very calm in a crisis).  He said, " Help! The bulldozer we were playing on had a key in it, and Mikey (the 8 year old)  turned it and started it!"

  8. I have a daughter who is 4 1/2 and I can't honestly say I could ever see her doing something like that, except for a practical joke. She has a HUGE sense of humour. That being said, she plays hard, and as my husband has put it, as hard as any boy he has ever seen, including himself at that age, lol!

  9. May he always have no fear in trying something, just to see if it works. May he always have a curiosity to know more. And may he understand all of these good things are pushing his mama closer to heart medication:-)

  11. Oh wow!! I totally would have too at that age! I assume from your post all is ok! And I would let the supervisor on the job site know about the key (Not your son started it LOL), its a hazard and they can get fined for it!

  24. Oh that Mikey - you've got to keep an eye on him every minute! I am now happily following you along.

    ReplyDelete
  25. sounds like something i'd do when i was 8! oh boys, we just have to keep eyes on them. constantly (iam the eldest of 5, so i know how that feels)

  26. I did the samething when there was one in our backyard - if the workers leave the key in the ignition, then isn't it our duty to turn it? The best was when I pulled on the handles and it started going up and down - I felt this power come over me, like I was in charge and you better not mess with me (just like a boy). That's something every boy should experience (without getting hurt).
But we had an unwritten rule - no telling unless someone was seriously hurt/in danger... Penalty flag!

  27. Wow I would have had a Heart attack!!!
But I think all kids are just curious.

  29. Wow. Disaster averted, since they didn't drive it (I hope).

  30. Holy cow! I am now waiting for the rest of the story! I imagine no one was hurt...or perhaps you would have started your story differently! You have to love and admire the bravery and curiosity of boys...but frequently that admiration is coupled with a desire to break their necks for scaring you to death!

  31. Okay, that is NOT a good thing...

  33. LOL...........did they drive it? I love boys for this reason! naturally curious and providing mommy with a heart attack.

  34. So funny! I envy you that you still have boys at home. My 4 are all grown up and moved away. We raised ours in the woods of Mississippi, and I swear the same thing happened at our house! My husband had a bulldozer, tractor, etc.. My favorite was when one of the boys would run in shouting for me and say "Now, don't panic, mama" first thing. Of course, thats when you panic!
    Thanks for sharing, Dorothy~~

  35. oh boy...boys will be boys..you have to tell us the outcome

  67. Holy Moly, I would have peed my pants. After I pictured my child trapped in the buldozer and mowing down my house. Thank goodness everything was okay. Sometimes I wonder why it is inhumane to tie them to a tree and let them play, it would be safer. J/K bye the way.

  68. Oh no that is scary, glad your boys are so honest to come and let you know what happened straight away.
