Coaching Girls Basketball

It was nearing the end of a successful CYO basketball season. My husband was the head coach. The 4th grade girls were lined around the lane, waiting for the shooter to shoot a foul shot.  My husband reminded the players, "Box out!  Get the rebound!"  One girl looked back at him.  And shook her head no, and mouthed the words, " I can't. I am on offense."

  1. Isn't it great to coach a kids' team? Our boys played in a lot of sports, but soccer provided us with the most laughs when they started out. No matter how many times we told the kids to stay in their positions, the whole horde kept following the ball in a cloud of dust. It was like having a whole team made up of Charlie Brown's friend Pig Pen.

  46. I played basketball in Catholic grade school and high school. Never did appreciate those coaches until I became a parent/volunteer at my kids' schools. In this situation I guess you could say out of the mouths of babes oft times come gems...have a great weekend!
