Why I Have A Stash

me, "When are all these kids going home?"
kid, "Oh, not for a long time. I told them all they could stay for dinner."

  1. Haha! But it is nice your kid feels he (or she) can say that, too.

  2. Yikes !!!! Thank The Lord for the well stocked pantry! xo

  3. Oh no! My mom would say, throw another potato in the pot...but that doesn't always work!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Wondering how many times all of your kids wanted to invite a friend for dinner?

    ReplyDelete
  5. All I had to do was show my friends what my Portuguese mother was making for diner and they quickly trotted home. Strange, but fish head soup with kale isn't the kid magnet you might think it to be.

  6. Oh my! That sounds like me as a kid.

  7. Hey there! Thanks so much for visiting, commenting, and following my blog! Definitely following you back now!

And I can totally relate to your post! It seems like for every child I have, two more show up. So every day there are 9+ kids over at our house. It drives me nuts most of the time because of the huge mess that I have to clean.

  8. Wait until you have to call out - "OK! all family in one line in the kitchen and all non-family form a line out on the front lawn!" -

then deadbolt the front door when they leave!

  9. lol! They are lucky you have a stash and are good spirited. I was the kid at school always volunteering my mom to bake cookies, make costumes, etc. She was a good sport, too- but yikes! I think of all the work I gave her. :)

  10. Oh, my, I remember those lines! ;) Actually, I would rather have their friends with them here at our house than wonder where they are.

    ReplyDelete
  11. That is exactly the kind of thing my sister and I used to do! We both know how to cook for a crowd in a hurry, though.

  12. A stash? Stash? Are you talking about the stash of extra macaroni and cheese to feed these kids? Or the stash of wine for you, to be enjoyed after they leave?

    ;-)

  13. Heehee...I love it when the kids say" Our parents said it's ok to stay at your house." :P

    ReplyDelete
  14. Uh oh, time for franks and mac!

    ReplyDelete
  15. What do you cook for that many?? LOL sandie

  16. That is TOO funny! I remember when my Daughter was a teenager, I had to ALWAYS make loads of food for dinner:) We always had extras! Have a blessed evening dear friend, HUGS!

  17. My mother kept entire cooked dinners and whole cakes in the freezer. I loved that she never said we couldn't have company. What a gift she gave me and you are giving your family!

  18. Lol. Gotta love kiddos! Thanks for visiting Peaceful Wishing. I'm now following you back! :)

  19. So long as they stayed out of my way, they were always welcome! Sometimes I screamed for a quiet house, but now that my son is off to college I kinda miss the noise...well sometimes.

  25. Love to know what was the dinner? Pasta or pizza?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I love this, I hope the kids pitched in and helped.

    ReplyDelete
  27. LOL! I had the same thing happen this weekend! I had 8 kids over and only 3 belonged to me. Each child had friends over! Yikes what do I feed them all? PIZZA! A life saver!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Every night we have a kid over for dinner that doesn't belong to us. This is the story of my life lol.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh my. Those kids would be in trouble at my house. I am not sure I could cook for all of them. Take out?

    ReplyDelete
  30. How nice that you are willing to host!

    ReplyDelete
  31. It's nice to have your house become the center! Should we all be so lucky!

  36. How funny. Well, I think it's wonderful that your child knows how to be a good host.

    ReplyDelete
  37. LOL! I have three boys and their friends are always visiting. I know what that means..lol

    ReplyDelete
  38. UUUGGGG I have been there. Usually I do not minded, However some nights I think I don't want them to know we are having spaghetti for the 4th night in a row.LOL

    ReplyDelete
  39. That sounds SO familiar....my kids love to turn up with friends and say...'Oh, can they eat with us?'...of course they usually end up staying......sometimes longer than just dinner!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I want to be that mom one day - the mom whose house everyone wants to go to visit and play at AND stay over for whatever meal she cooks up for whomever stays over.... so I am going to practice stocking up now... one trouble is I keep eating the snacks I stock up! My children and their friends won't stand a chance with me in the house with them... er, maybe I won't be that mom after all???

  43. My house used to be the place everyone gathered.... and ate. LOts of times they would end up staying all night and I had to make breakfast for them too.

    ReplyDelete
  44. How nice that your kids feel comfortable saying that to their friends and how wonderful that you are that kind of mom who understands. Bless you.

  45. The least they could do is help with the dishes...Have a wonderful day! Cathy

    ReplyDelete
  46. Do you have SPAM in the cabinet. That'll show them. Of course, being kids they'd probably LOVE it and want to eat over every day. Thanks for the chuckle today.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ha. Yup, you better keep a stash on hand!

    ReplyDelete
  48. haha....proof that your house is a home!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. My two used to do that to us, too. There were 4 kids next door and 7 two houses down, and it seemed like most of them usually congregated with our 2 in our living room. Fortunately, Mac-and-cheese goes a long way when feeding a crowd. Glad your home is a home to many, not just a house. Too soon, it will be frightenly quiet. Enjoy, how ever so hectic!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Brilliant! I used to throw a few more things together and tell them it was a 'medley' for supper, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  51. niceeeee :) you're a warm mommy. thats why.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think that is sweet:) We have kids at our house all the time in the summer. I usually try to make extra at meal times.

Thanks for stopping by and I'm your newest follower too!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Oh no!!!! That's not something one wants to hear.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hahaha, I find that really sweet, yet I hope it's not something I would hear my kids say, esp. when I am not prepared! :)

    ReplyDelete
  55. When mine were growing up, I often had an extra sitting at the table at meal time. Many learned to like a lot of foods at my house that they were never served at home.

  68. Eating dinner at your friend's house is the stuff childhood is made of. Good for you for letting it happen. Again and again. Next question: when is it the other mom's turn?

    ReplyDelete
  69. It is a good thing you were prepared for this!:) Anyway wonderful kid with a nice spirit! Take care.
