There are less than 3 weeks of school left. My fourth grader said todays question for the teacher was...."How can I possibly get in trouble for doing hand signals during silent lunch?"
That was cute...and a very good question! I have to tell you, I totally admire the way you manage to enjoy all the parts of your life! You are an inspiration!
This is very attention-grabbing, You're an excessively skilled blogger. I've joined your feed and stay up for in quest of extra of your excellent post. Additionally, I have shared your web site in my social networks my web site - Nathalie L. Warren
That is funny! I always thought I would love teaching children. I was a corporate trainer for a number of years and had the realization that teaching adults that are being required to go to a class by their employers, is not as fun as you might think. There were hand gestures upon occassion, as well. Especially in the class "Financial Fitness". Classes about money bring out the best in people.
I had a girl tell me yesterday she didn't have to put her phone away if she was "putting it back together and turning it off" from where she dropped it while texting during class.
Then she rolled her eyes and slammed her chair in when I asked her to put her phone on my desk. I mean, really. One more week...one more week....one more week....
Hand signals mean different things to different people/cultures. The famous 'V" for Victory hand sign is a porno/swear word in one culture and an easy way to get yourself beat up if you flashed it to the wrong person.
Annmarie, My hats off to teachers...especially those who really care about their students and who truly engage them in learning. To be a great teacher, you must be dedicated, creative and hard working all while being a leader. I taught trainable mentally retarded children when I first got out of school,(the term used back then), and in 2 years I saw the best and the worst of teaching. But as this hand signal 'story' indicates, one fact stands...NEVER underestimate the children with their capacity to learn and to innovate! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
I know you don't have the time, but thought of you anyway for my writing workshop hop. Maybe check it out? http://sandrasfiberworks.blogspot.com/2012/05/sandras-writing-workshop-hop.html

Hey. Just dropped by to let you know my writing workshop hop is up for a good week -- you mentioned you were going t try and get to it tonight, so no rush! I'm leaving it up as I know links are slow to start so giving people some time. That will be my turn around, anyway, a good week. Have a great weekend and can't wait to see what you link up!
As a former middle school teacher, I can only imagine "silent" lunch. What a novel concept. Our lunch room was at a multi-decibel pitch from beginning to end of the period! I would have voted for "silent lunch" with hand signals any day!!!

Children often test our patience, but always bring us joy! Thanks for the great post & for visiting & commenting on Saved by Grace! God bless, Laurie http://savedbygracebiblestudy.blogspot.com/
In my ninth grade drama class, the teacher would get so mad at us for talking, but encouraged those doing sign language. I hated it, because it was louder than the talking. These girls wore about six bracelets each, and these bracelets would clink, and clink, and clink...
Haha! That made me chuckle. I'm a new follower from My Life as a Reserve Army Wife. I am a teacher and at our school at this point in the year if a student gets in trouble, they end up with out of school suspension. So, our kids can get in trouble even with only 8 days left. They love to push buttons, especially at the end of the year. :)
That really made me crack a smile as I am a teacher~
ReplyDeleteMe as well, being that i am a teacher too.

ReplyDeleteHeehee...kids...
ReplyDeleteFunny.
ReplyDeletelol. That's a good question, smart kid.
ReplyDeleteLOL! Yeah, I teach too. At this point a fake silent lunch is about all we've got....and field day. :-)
ReplyDeleteI lay the odds - Not for hand signalling per se but for causing a distraction when they all should be eating their lunch.
ReplyDeleteDepends on whether its a naughty hand signal :-).
ReplyDeleteSo how are you feeling about school being out? Do you have a lot of activities planned?
ReplyDeleteI find it so funny!
ReplyDeleteWhat about following each other?

ReplyDeleteIn my years of teaching, I saw many a hand sign exchanged at silent lunch. Kids can be so resourceful, can't they?
ReplyDeleteThat's a good question really! At least he is thinking outside of the box as a way to communicate with his friends!

ReplyDeleteIt's a great question, and perfectly logical. I wonder if the teacher was able to keep a straight face after hearing the question?
