Hercules Has A New Threat
And it is no longer the Hoover vacuum. He probably wishes that was his biggest concern. Now that all the boys are back from sports camps they want to exercise their new pet around the clock. My husband gets up at 6, walks the dog, and so begins the steady stream of humans in half hour succession repeating this same scene. Then the lunch time walks start. The mid afternoon. Late afternoon. Early evening. Walking, running, fetching, siting, laying, shaking. Over and over. My husband reenters for dinner and says,"Hercules! Hey puppy! Want to go for a walk?!" The dog does not respond enthusiastically. He lays there, against the couch wagging his tail but not even lifting his head. He could care less about that stupid vacuum. Now it's the leash that is the threat, and another person who wants to take him for a walk. This dog will be the most physically fit canine in the state of Pennsylvania by the end of the month. My one son ran him so hard yesterday my son started wheezing, and today another son took Herk swimming in the creek. On top of all of these walks and runs! The dog is treated like royalty from others too. We went on a picnic on Sunday and left my sons friend in charge of walking Herk, feeding him etc. We got half hour text updates on the dogs status. I knew more about what this dog did in 6 hours then I ever knew about any of our kids. Looks like Hercules moved right in.

LOL! Your right, he doesn't need to be afraid of the vacuum cleaner anymore.
ReplyDeleteMaybe with this heat expected in the next few days the walking will slow down. Well on the bright side at least he's getting exercise and not just sitting around getting fat.
ReplyDeleteHaha That is so cute. My dogs love walk-time, so they would be in heaven!
ReplyDeleteIt is so GREAT how animals control our lives. My daughter in law wants me to dress my dog like she does her's. Nope, I don't dress animals. It is a dog! I told that to my son in law and he gave me an immediate HIGH FIVE, right on! I'd say that Herk will realize you don't walk him and he will love even more than he does already. I love how our dog will lay perfectly still but her tail is going 90 mph. Cute animals.
ReplyDeleteLooks as though he's training you well!

LOL!! I bet Herk is one tired puppy!!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is great! Usually the kids will not keep their part of the bargain and it is the mom who has to do the walking and feeding. You have very responsible kids!
ReplyDeleteNothing is cuter than an exhausted puppy. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is so fun!! Puppies are always a great addition to the family. He probably sleeps really well! lol
ReplyDeleteHave his legs gotten shorter from walking them off?
ReplyDeletehe is probably wishes that the vacuum was his only worry now
ReplyDeleteAt my house it's... "ummmmmmmm, no, we can NOT stop and get you that milk you so desperately need from the store on the way home -- we have to get home right away to let Dandy out!" ... lol!! They do run our lives! :)

ReplyDeleteLet me try again, I forgot how to spell, LOL...I was saying, what a hoot! I'm surprised he's over the vacuum monster so soon. The next thing will be the bath tub and all those who come for him. That's when you'll all be walking through the house calling for him only to find two big brown eyes peering out from under your bed. It's amazing how well they master the English language.
ReplyDeleteMy kids were popping firecrackers today and our new little mutt pup was terrified!!! Is it wrong that I thought it was funny?! He is itty bitty but acts like he's a great dane!! Not around firecrackers!! hehe
ReplyDeleteHow funny! Of course, you know the newness will wear off and then he will languish...like our rotten puppy/dog does! If you ask if she wants to go out, she just looks at you with that "you have got to be out of your mind" look they all get!
ReplyDeleteAwww...poor puppy:)
ReplyDeletethat is so funny! and for the record, my dogs biggest threat? the dyson although my baby is a close contender ;)
ReplyDeletehalf hour text updates...lol....forced exercise is not fun for me either...smiles....
ReplyDeleteNow is the dog training the people or are the people training the dog. If I was there the dog would definitely be training me.
ReplyDeleteHow old is your dog? Well, ours roams free between house and shop on the next property..but me thinks she could use more exercise. Funny, I get up sooo early too but it's a similar routine (without kids..sort a, she is our child (lol) I used to take her for a walk but she prefers a morning toss while the coffee brews- with a flippy flopper instead (I hold one and she fetches the other)..this way she doesn't rag it!! Both my husband and I both toss in the evening, sometimes twice. She comes in exhausted too. Oh, she hates the vacumn!!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness that is so cute. He is afraid of the leash. We walk our dog but it is nothing like that - sandie
ReplyDeleteLooks like your dog is fitting right into the insanity of your family. I wouldn't be surprised if he develops a great sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteHa! He'll never want for attention!
ReplyDeleteHaha! That is one LOVED puppy!
ReplyDeleteSounds like your puppy is going to be so spoiled. Lucky dog!
ReplyDeletelol... the dog must be lucky.. :P
ReplyDeleteLOL- That dog might be putting HIMSELF up for adoption! x0 Diana
ReplyDeleteLOL! I love it! A mans and boys best friend indeed.
ReplyDeleteYou have me giggling Annmarie...those sweet fur babies...is there such a thing as too much love? ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that your family is doting on the puppy!
Have a beautiful weekend...
Blessings,
- Irina
Yeah, all that enthusiasm should last for possibly another month or two. Then guess who will be doing most of the walking. Oh yes, they will all still love him but will be way to busy to help out, besides, they just did it a day or so ago.
ReplyDeleteBeen there, done that!
interesting...
ReplyDeletethanks for visiting my blog and posting a inspiring comment

ReplyDeleteThe novelty will wear off sooner than you think and you'll probably end up walking Herk yourself :-).
ReplyDeleteOne lucky dog!
ReplyDeleteHe will start hiding!
ReplyDeleteO my can your kids come & walk our dogs please... we are having a hard time finding the time.
ReplyDeleteYour Royal Highness puppy is hopefully not getting too tired with all the run and walk. lol!
ReplyDeleteOh that made me laugh. I am imagining a naturally lazy dog with the misfortune to end up in a household like yours!
ReplyDeletelol!! poor!
ReplyDeleteThey are king of the castle! Or in our case 'queen' : )
ReplyDeleteTooo funny!
ReplyDeleterolfmao!
ReplyDeletethanks for the good laugh!
xo
I hope they don't all feed the puppy as much as they walk her. A fun post.
ReplyDeleteSuch a very active doggie! Wish I could also run daily. I need to lose weight! hehe!

kind of hilarious! all i have to say to my dog is "do?" and he freaks out because he loves walks so much!
ReplyDeleteSuch a good laugh...thank you for sharing! And the name Hercules! perfect!
ReplyDeletewell..it is a new day. My mom got a rescue dog and I swear she speaks more and more kindly to it than she ever did her 5 children. No wonder she doesn't get invited to sibling swim day each year.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to find your blog!! You have 8 kids and you have an awesome blog- you are my new hero!! Can't wait to read more!
ReplyDeleteThe fitness king of dogs...!
ReplyDelete(involuntary fitness king)
;)
What a lucky dog to have so many people to shower love and attention on him!
ReplyDeleteWhat a good sport Hercules is! He is pampered by all that amazing attention. What will he do when the kids are back in school? :)
ReplyDeleteSome comments here makes me lol!! Having a dog can be time consuming but they're so sweet to have..
ReplyDeletePoor dog, I hope he gets some rest :)
ReplyDeleteWow! I never knew a puppy could be worn out!! That's hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the novelty will soon wear off and the task of taking Hercules out will be left to old dad!
ReplyDeleteOh...em...gee...too funny! How lucky is Hercules:)
ReplyDeleteGreat name for a dog! Love your blog and will have to come back and check it out better when I have more time.
ReplyDeleteHow funny.
ReplyDeleteSo, do you think the novelty will wear off?
Our dog Rowdy would be a lucky boy to get that much attention and exercise :)
Smiles :)

An over walked dog. I bet that's a first! ;o) Thanks for following! Lovely blog, I have subscribed.
ReplyDeleteLove it! I love how exciting your life is. Can we all live vicariously through you??? :)
ReplyDeleteHercules is probably thrilled! I think you have the perfect size family to keep a dog happy. Lots of walks and many people to take him out when needed! :)
ReplyDelete~Jess
You can send some dog walkers this way, I have four pups they get walked once a day, two at a time. Sounds like your group could have them worn out in no time. lol
ReplyDeleteI host a linky party on my blog on Sunday, I would love to see you there.

Happy kids, Happy Dog...great combination.
ReplyDeleteJust think, just when the puppy will be used to the "pee every 30 minutes" cycle, the novelty of walking him every 30 minutes will start to wear off...LOL.
ReplyDeleteI totally understand. Woo Hoo. Coco has become the queen around here. Eddie and I fight over who is going to walk her, play with her, ect. When we go to bed, we argue over whose side of the bed she is going to sleep on. lol, pathetic.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for reading and following! Really I truly appreciate it!

It may wear off after awhile. I almost feel sorry for the little guy, almost.
ReplyDeleteA tired puppy is a good puppy. ;)
ReplyDeletePoor Herk. He just has so many loving owners, which is a good thing, but the exercising is a bit much. You write hilariously!
ReplyDeletemomto9?
ReplyDeleteThat one was cute. I should be saying he's a rare find. While other dogs are dying for a walk this one never cares. Haha
