The Last Day of School

is today...summer is a whole new ball game.
Hershey Park, diving board tricks in rapid succession, air soft battles, baseball non stop in the back yard, popsicle sticks in my landscaping, smores around the fire pit, contests for who can catch the most toads, the scent of the grill, never in bed at anything close to a reasonable hour, who can jump the farthest off the swings, fishing in the creek followed with mud all over the garage, long bike rides made more fun by odometers and speedometers from Santa, adults having to sit through their plays and having to pay .25 to do it, never a clean kitchen table, good bye to clean kitchen counters too, what I will hear all day, every day, "Mom...Mom!....Mom?..Mom. Mom! Mom? Mom!  Mom? Mom. Mom! Mom?"  What my husband will hear every day, "How long till you come home?"

  5. Summer! Children are rejoicing everywhere - - but the word "summer" strikes terror in the hearts of every mother.
I can only think of two things to say:
I'm glad I don't have kids, and GOOD LUCK!!

  7. Time really flies doesn't it? My daughter's last day of H.S. was yesterday. My son's is in like 2 weeks.

Hershey Park in PA? I went 2 years ago but the drive back to Ny was horrendous. I may go this year but I'm def. getting a hotel for the night.

  8. I have summer everyday here in Malaysia.

Everyday is just the repeat of another day.

  9. HAHAHAHA! Our last day is tomorrow. I am ready for all of those things. Because I am a teacher, and I need a break from all these kids just as much as they need a break from me! I do enjoy my summers with my children though. I feel that I miss so much during the school year because of my coaching duties, and numerous other responsibilities.

  12. You must live close to Hershey Park...we went there some years back when we traveled East to see some Civil War Battlefields. Our kids were smaller and we all LOVED Hershey Park. My daughter lived in the D.C. area for a while and tookher kids to Hershey Park because she had such good childhood memories from there. Have a great summer!

  17. Hahaha! When my daughter was here over the weekend, she said she wanted just 24 hours of not hearing "Mom? Mommy?" every 2 minutes. Your summer sounds idyllic. I remember having contests to see who could jump the farthest out of a swing. It's good that some things never change.

    ReplyDelete
  25. oh i feel you there sista!...before you know it though they are grown up...which is nice but you look at them and wonder what happened to that youngster that made you laugh as he/she figured things out...and cheered you up just by hugging "the stuffins" out of you...and housework will wait but growing up will not...looks like you have some great memories in the making

    ReplyDelete

  31. Enjoy!!! It's busy here as well, but I am really starting to see the benefit of a big family as my two older girls are becoming such good helpers with the younger ones.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well, you could write that with even more events and I'd still enjoy it. Sounds like my home as a kid, and we only had 4 kids. I can imagine your home and yet I love the sounds I hear.

  40. I love summer! So much fun to have and so little time to have it in! I do have to admit though, I do text my husband with the same statement about 3 days a week, the days when we don't have any fun adventures planned. Lol

    ReplyDelete
  41. In my house you have to add the "I'm bored" mantra, too! Mine have been out two days and already my stress level has increased many fold!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yep! That means summer...mom, mom, mom.....

    Have so much fun!

    ReplyDelete

  55. I only raised 3 (3 boys) ---and none of them nor my grandchildren live near. SO--our home is very quiet most of the year. I do remember those summers though when the kids were HOME... We did so many of the same things that you and your kids do.... Have a great day---week----month----SUMMER.
    Hugs,

  56. I remember that sound - "Mom. Mom! Mom!!" to the sound of the screen door slamming shut. Slamming shut. Slamming shut. Slamming...

I'm quite fond of that office supply store commercial late in the summer that has you shopping for school supplies to the tune of "It's the most wonderful time of the year..."

    ReplyDelete
  57. LOL! Welcome to summer! I'm going to enjoy my childless days because i will definitely be blogging about this whenever i have kids... probably sounding a little bit more bitter

  61. When my children were growing up, I always dreaded the last day of school. There was always so much to be arranged, so much to be planned, so much to do. Then a week later I settled into what was, and it wasn't so bad - except the Mom!, Momm!, and the Mmmooommm!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Sooner than you know, the house will grow quieter with each child leaving the nest until you wished you would hear ...Mom, Mom? Mom!... again. Enjoy the chaos and love them lots.

Then the kids are off to South Africa for 6 weeks. It's going to be quiet around our place.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Yay, summer. It'll go by so fast. :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Ah, I can so relate to this, especially the mom...mom!...mom?....part. The word 'mom' must be the most used word in our household....FOR SURE :-)
But when school starts again it is sooooo quiet.

  73. Wow! Summer vacation. My favorite two words. As a high school teacher, I always look forward to my summer vacation. I loved that my kids had the same vacation as me. Now my kids are 24,22 and 16. All three kids did the summer reading program and I would tutor them to ensure they would be ready for school in the fall. This year though, things are a bit strange. My youngest has been in the hospital since my summer vacation started . I am very thankful that he is feeling much better and will be going home soon.
Despite this curb ball, I have a ton to be thankful for. Thank you so much for following my blog. I was already following you and very glad you are now following me back. Have a grand week-end.

  75. Oh, I remember those summers. I even threatened to change my name from "Dad" to anything else, and not respond! But, alas, now that I am alone in life, with my brood grown and gone, I surely miss the messes, treks to the lake, ice cream parlor, baseball and soccer fields, drive in theaters, and all. Now I sit back and watch my kids have to do the "haul and tote" for their offspring. AHHH! Live does have it's rewards.
Enjoy, because all too soon, it will come to an end!

  76. Well, we who work in schools love it--summer vacation.

    Have fun!
