What Is Really In The Laundry

Yesterday the dryer was making so much noise. Unusual noise. With every turn it was Bang! Bang!  I asked my son to please see what the heck was going on in the dryer. He reported back in 5 seconds that he had 2 baseball belts in there and that was what was banging. Mistake #12...believe a 12 year old son who wants to go outside and play and does not want to investigate laundry noises. I believed him. I went to the gym so I wouldn't hear the banging.  When I came home I began folding the laundry...and that banging?  How about a 8X8 rock?  yes! That would definitely make that kind of noise...and remember my purple glasses? They were in there too. Later, after dinner on the patio, I asked this same kid to please bring my cell phone inside because I was going to rinse off the tables and didn't want to get the phone wet. He was carrying all the dishes and so put my cell phone in his baseball pants pocket. Today, I could not find my phone. He said he put it right on the kitchen island and someone must have moved it.  He remembered putting it in his uniform pants..they were washed and folded and put away already. After an exhaustive family search ...I found my phone ...in the rubber rim of the washing machine...after 3 loads of wash....in one days wash I washed that rock, my glasses and my phone.
Summer just started.

  3. Aaaaah! My dear, I am sick for you! Losing a phone is like losing part of your brain! Think of it in that "trouble comes in threes" and you've gotten all yours out of the way for the month......right?

  4. Oh, bless your heart! What a mess this turned out to be. I can identify with the phone - did the same to mine one time. Never again! :)

  6. Oh...that's not good! It's funny...and you'll look back one day and laugh...but for now it's not funny! Even though it is :)

  7. I would add that rock to my rock collection...but that's just me :-)

    ReplyDelete
  8. LOL!! I know I shouldn't laugh but I couldn't help it.

  9. At least your son knew what a washing machine was and where it was located. Our son would have needed a map to find it.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Too funny about the phone! And you still love this kid? I think I would like him by the sounds of it.

    ReplyDelete
  11. So sorry, but I have to tell you that I am encouraged that my son is not alone. Enjoy the weekend!

  12. I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry. Good luck this summer!

  16. Oh, no!!! Of course, my old washer and dryer used to clunk all the time, but there was nothing but clothing in there. The machines themselves liked to clunk.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I've washed the tv remote with the bed sheets, twice. Thank goodness for eBay. :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sounds like something I would do!! I misplace my glasses at least three days a day...now I'll know when I've looked everywhere else to check the washing machine. :) Hope you have a great weekend!

  19. Oh Lord, Bless your heart:) and I thought mine was starting off rough, nothing like that has happened..so far:)

  21. I love your commentary on the everyday happenings in life-even if sometimes they are the greatest source of anguish. The good, the bad and the ugly-it's all part of life. God bless the Pipa family.
PS Dan and Brittany are celebrating Protiviti's 10th year tonight. Hope they have a good time. ;)

  22. This is a horror story to be sure. The moral is...always double check yourself, sad to say! Boys are like that. It's a wonder that huge rock didn't break your machine! We had a light bulb in the washer once...shortly later we got a new one.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh my...sorry about your phone :(

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh wow! That stinks about the phone. Boys will be boys I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  25. so i'm guessing the phone is not working? i've heard people put them in their oven to dry it out & it works again. my hubby did it when he was using a pager ... but that was years ago. sorry to hear this... i know it must be so frustrating. the summer will get better i know it. big hugs!! (:

    ReplyDelete
  26. ewwwww! Not good. I've washed plenty of phones myself.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh my gosh, this is the story of my life! Washing toys, rocks, occasionally my phone (although that hasn't happened in a while)…what is up with kids storing rocks in their pockets? Lol

    ReplyDelete
  28. oh no, I was afraid thats where this was going, boy i have been there!
Now my children are in their thirties and I try to remember times like what you described when I wish they small again, it usually works to make me see the joy in having lived through those years, AND SURVIVED, and having adults now for children, ha ha ha.It gets better ,,lets face it, it couldn't get worse, rocks and sunglasses, and phone in washer wow, ha ha , no don't answer that!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Tomorrow's another day who know's what surprises it will bring :-).

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh the joys of children! What's gunna happen next?

    ReplyDelete
  31. First I thought you were going to say a cat. Then I thought that there was a large thing like maybe a book. But as soon as you said you asked the same ignoring son, where your phone was? ... yup! Oh, don't you just love how life is so fun all at the same time? hang in there!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh my gosh, you can't make this stuff up! Welcome to summer!

  33. I... don't know what to say....I hope your kids live through the summer.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh my, I do not know what to say...I am imagining my new, cost too much, phone, being washed..Oh boy, do you still have the same number of children? xo

    ReplyDelete
  35. Wow, some load of laundry. How is the washing machine and/or dryer? Bonnie

  36. I can so relate to this post, but it wasn't my cell phone we found in the washing machine one day but my son's (dead) pet snake. He didn't tell us that it had gotten out of it's cage. Have a great summer and remember to check those pockets!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. >>> Jones family, I can pretty much guarantee you that I would rather find my son's dead snake in my washing machine than find my son's LIVE snake anywhere in my house!! (If I had a son! And if he had a snake!!)

  37. Luckily my son is just about to turn five this summer and he leaves stones still in the garden or on my bookshelf.

    Please have a good weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  38. We didn't have that problem when our son was little. It's a good thing,I would have gone gray a lot sooner than I did.

  39. Ok not funny about the phone but at the same time so bloody funny kids grrrrrrrr and a boy kid you know he will grow into on of those men grrrrrrrrrrrrr.........lol But you just have to love them and hug them because if you didn't you would want to throttle them......lol

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh boy...hilarious, although at your expense. Was the washer damaged at all? I hope you can replace your phone! Thanks for linking up!

    ReplyDelete
  41. That's funny, just because it didn't happen to me. Sounds like a 12 year old needs to do laundry for a while...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Two summers ago, to took my favorite cell phone swimming. Reddy (I do not usually name phones) was dead--I loved the phone.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh, no!!! Did the dryer survive... at least?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Oh my gosh! I thought the rocks and legos in my dryer were bad, lol. That's quite a story! I have heard that putting your phone in a ziploc with rice for 3 days works.

    ReplyDelete
  45. My cell phone was washed in a pair of baseball pants last summer! Less than a month after I got a new phone, too. I've washed drill bits, screws, and nails by the hundreds. Pens, Legos, etc, etc. And I've seen smaller, but never an 8 x 8 rock... or my glasses!

    ReplyDelete
  46. You should be a reality show. I would definitely tune in :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. I hate to admit it, but I couldn't help but grin as I read about your day doing laundry. Just think of the exciting summer days ahead.

    ReplyDelete
  48. lol, laughing with you, not at you, lol

    ReplyDelete
  49. Oh No!!!!!!!!! I hate when this happens to me.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Oh no, what a disastrous wash day! I accidentally left my cell phone in my jeans pocket one time and it got washed with the jeans. Someone told me to take the phone apart (battery, memory card) and put them in a bowl of rice and cover them with the rice. Leave them in the rice for 24 to 48 hours and the rice will absorb moisture from the phone parts. The battery might not make it, but you can buy a replacement battery online for a reasonable price.

  51. My pet hate, things left in pockets in the laundry. Husband recently left the new tax disc for his car in his pocket (has to be displayed by law) I washed it and it disintegrated and that was somehow my fault. Fortunately though, he frequently leaves money in pockets and that is then mine!

    ReplyDelete
  52. That's too much in one day! I've washed paper money in my time and quite a few small dolls but so far the phone has survived. Funny story! Hope your phone was insured.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Oh that is a scene from our house!! Stones, nails, sweet wrappers (which were hidden in pockets as said child was told no he couldn't have sweets/crisps etc)you name it I wash and dry it!!
Hope you managed to sort the mobile phone though, thats an expensive wash!

    ReplyDelete
  54. OMG....i better check my pockets when i get home...just saying...that was a huge rock!!! glad it did not take out the glasses...or the cell phone...

    ReplyDelete
  55. Your stories are killing me here. And I was so happy you had purple glasses. Did you find your phone by calling it. (I do that all the time when I can't find it.) Would have been hilarious to hear the washer ringing.

    Happy summer girl.

  56. An 8 inch rock? Geez. I can't imagine doing laundry for 8 kids plus.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Oh my goodness! What a day you had! Did anyone own up to putting the rock in the dryer?

    ♥charlotte

    ReplyDelete
  58. And your dryer still works? LOL what a day you have had! You need a break!
PS I have a son that I think has selective hearing.

  60. Delightful story. And, oh how I relate. I am the oldest of thirteen siblings and the laundry was always one of my jobs when school was out. I will spare you the list of what I would find in the pockets of my brothers on laundry day.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Oh my! Children and checking all pockets at laundry time is a must!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Annmarie, I appreciate the fact that you're a mom to 8! Yikes...and this was damage done by only one of them... Kids are amazing but they definitely can drive you crazy. I remember my son getting sick after partying too much...and leaving a present for us in his wastebasket. On the other hand, he just graduated from law school. Best yet, he and his wife handed us a check for the loan we made him plus interest! Never give up...there is hope! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

    ReplyDelete
  66. When I think that way back when, my wife and I wanted 6 children. We had 3, lost one, but the two we had were enough. I can't imagine 8. I hate to snicker at your plight, but it was funny, anyway. (Especially since it didn't happen to me.) I did have to take up the toilet once to rescue a G I Joe action figure which "accidentally" fell in!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Moral of the story - always check the pockets of your kids pants before starting the wash. So sorry your glasses and phone went through the wash. These are the stories that when told years later will be funny.

    Danielle

  102. Oh my, I guess the phone survived as you did not say otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Don't you just love children...I currently have no washing machine due to my son leaving his bank card in his pocket which is now shredded and blocking the pipes...what I have is a machine full of dirty water and the repair man can't make it for another week!!

Lesson learnt....check everyone's pockets from now on!!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Yep, I've learned the hard way to check every single pocket (shirts included) when doing the laundry. Just 2 months ago a mini bottle of bath and body works lotion went through the wash. The clothes were ok after another washing though, thankfully!

    ReplyDelete
  105. too funny. i don't mind the clanging (ok, i do, but...) it's the kleenex that gets left in the pockets of my BLACK loads that really gets to me!

    [oomph.]

  106. HAHAHAHA
Oh, I should not be laughing. Your poor phone. Oh, do you see you see better with your 'cleaner' glasses?

oh, the snippets of life that make me go back to your blog each time. :-)

  107. People used to wash clothes on rocks..did they come out any cleaner?

    ReplyDelete
  108. Gosh, how did someone have a rock in their pocket and not know it? Anyways, I guess you'll be getting a new phone. Don't feel bad, I washed my point & shoot camera before and I was the one who left it in my pocket.

    ReplyDelete
  116. lol XD
i guess when i become a mom in 5 years or something i will already know a lot of your tricks!

    ReplyDelete
  117. The computer tech in me would say take the back and battery out/off of phone. Put phone in a bag of uncooked rice, seal tightly, leave there for several days. As long as there were no soldered connections broken and the screen did not rack, it should work when you reassemble it. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  118. It is amazing what ends up in the washing machine. I love it. So glad you can laugh. I have a track phone so it is not a huge calamity when it is washed, misplaced or ends up in the bathtub.
My son lost his glasses. We searched for a week. Finally found them at the bottom of the pool. Squashed of course.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Lucky rock, got a cleaned thoroughly. Haha. I have this habit of searching for pockets on my pants before loading them on the washing machine.
