When A Kid Has the Wrong Sporting Equipment

At the end of his baseball game this was my son's nonstop rapid do not stop to breathe firing rant, "I wasn't even sure you were coming. Did you even notice? I forgot my cup. I had to wear the coaches cup. I think it was his from college. It was probably in his bag since he was in college. It was so old and was gigantic. It was practically touching my knees. I could not even field a ball because the cup was blocking my glove and I could not even run the bases because the cup was so huge it was in the way. Stop laughing."

  3. I can't help but laugh. I'm imagining this your son just being so serious about the whole thing, so upset, and not thinking this is funny at all. But it is!

  4. um....ewww....errr....lol...umm...really at a loss here...smiles.

  5. You women have no idea how serious this is! Suppose you were going out and you suddenly realized you wore the wrong shoes and they....DID NOT MATCH YOUR DRESS!!!

I am going to guess he will never forget his cup again.

Our coach always had several spare new cups in his bag. Good coach.

  6. Oh, Gawwwd! I remember the days with the "cup"! The constant rearranging. Will coach know if I don't put it on? It rubs me wrong. All of it. Such a cute story and I would be LMAO if I was there too.

  7. Haha so funny! He'll never forget it again now.

  8. Eww, the coach's old cup? Gross! You'd think he'd keep some spare boy's size cups around for just this reason. Funny, but gross story!

  9. Coach sounds like an interesting man!

  14. Oh my gosh, I started laughing at the beginning, rolling in the middle and tearful at the end...this is stinking hilarious! Bet that coach is P.R.O.U.D. of that gigantic cup! funny stuff!

  15. Annmarie, I definitely came from a different era. When I played baseball, the boys wore jock straps...only the catchers wore cups. Your son had to really be embarrassed though...kind of gross too, having to wear the coach's cup... Poor kid, he has my empathy for sure! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  16. That is so funny, and he probably was not happy at all that you laughed at him...

  27. HA! Too funny. Just getting back to visiting some of my favorite blogs today, and I'm glad I didn't miss this one. Reminds me of our son when he was a young boy. When he got his first cup, he didn't realize he didn't have to wear it ALL THE TIME. Much hilarity ensued when we realized the poor kid was even wearing it under his jammies.

Good to be back. Just gonna eeeeease into the blogosphere today, and start posting again in a couple days. Recess was definitely fun, but I reckon it's over.

  28. LOL!!!!!!!!!! I would have had to laugh too even if it was to his face. I couldn't have helped myself. Too funny!!

  29. There's an old English proverb that goes
"There's many a slip 'twixt the cup and the lip" your son's certainly got the cup on his lips. Hilarious.

  30. Awe, poor guy! I raised three boys so I know what you mean. I wouldn't dare laugh in front of mine though. They took these kinds of things waaay too seriously. Thanks for the smile and for your visit.

    Blessings,

  33. I'm not sure which gets me more - that the coach just happened to be carrying his old cup around with him or that he even thought to lend it to a kid on his team. Hysterical.

  34. I guess if I had a son that would be the kind of conversation we'd have. Very funny!

  35. LOL - poor guy! That can not have been a fun experience (but funny for others!)

  36. This is how much I know about sports... I had to read about 15 comments before I started understanding you were not talking about a cup like a tea cup, or coffee mug.

    So...they wear those for baseball?

  46. So funny, I'm guessing a cup is what we'd call a box in cricket? This is like a scene from my life - last night I drove the family to cricket (1 hour) and drove home (1 hour) with my sons entire kit still in my car - I drove back to the game very fast (a bit less than 1 hour!) and got some very black looks! Boy was I in trouble!

  61. Like others, I heart your blog--so honest and funny! This is a great story. The trials of childhood. It doesn't end. My 20 year old came home from the first day of summer term mortified because one of her teachers made her wear a surgical mask in class because she was coughing!

    ReplyDelete
  62. How could you honestly listen to him rant on and on about his " coach's cup" without laughing hysterically? Or better yet, how can you ever think about the coach without thinking about his "huge cup"! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  63. That's funny but he'll probably remember his cup next time.

    ReplyDelete
  64. lol, poor kid, that'll teach him to remember his cup!

  66. What was the coach doing carting around the old cup he had from his college days? was my first question. Ha ha!

    ReplyDelete
  67. This is so funny. It gave me a good chuckle first thing this morning. I'm passing it on. He'll laugh about it when he's an adult, but not right now! Wish my son was this age again. Enjoy every moment.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Oh no. Poor kid. Pretty funny though. Next time I bet a proper cup is the first thing he grabs when he leaves for a game.

    ReplyDelete
  69. THAT is one of the funniest stories I have read in a very long time!

  70. Ha! I love this. Boys are so refreshing...so real...so often unedited!
