Happy 5th!
My youngest son says the 4th of July is his favorite holiday. Pretty big day if it ranks higher than Christmas! I suppose it is because in his 10 years of life he does not remember a 4th of July celebration that was not celebrated at my sisters house. She has a beautiful log cabin in the mountains of West Virginia. And every year she hosts a 4th of July party....and every year we happily go. The scene looks like a Norman Rockwell picture. There are kids everywhere, dogs chasing each other, older adults swaying on porch rockers, young adults standing close to the beer or holding beer and playing yard games, the smell of burgers and hot dogs and smores, wet clothes dripping from tubing in the river, off! on the tables to keep the bugs away, and food food food. We see relatives we didn't see since last year and say again this year "let's get together." There is patriotic music playing on a CD and American flags between the shrubs and when dark comes too soon and we sit on lawn chairs while the kids sit on the wooden fence and we watch the fireworks entertain us.....and we all clap and applaud and praise the show. And my sisters attitude is the very best, keep it simple, don't bother with all kinds of packing just sleep in your clothes.

Hope yall had a Happy 4th :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you all had an amazingly good time at an idyllic setting. So glad you had a great day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful picture you painted of your vacation!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a refreshing and delightful time!
ReplyDeleteSounds like the perfect way to celebrate. That would be my favorite holiday too. :-)
ReplyDeleteHaving just put on a large soiree for over 30 people yesterday, complete with everything you just mentioned except for the tubing, I would imagine that your sister's favorite day is the 5th. I love giving parties, bringing people together and seeing old friends and family, but today I am dragging. However, even though right now I am thinking that maybe I should hand down these traditions to the younger generation, I will probably do it again next 4th for 20th time.
ReplyDeleteLooks like an amazing to get together as a family!! Happy late 4th of July to you!
ReplyDeleteAlmost heaven, West Virginia. And now I am so homesick to see my WV sis that I have tears in my eyes.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you all had such a wonderful time.
Yes. Sleep in your clothes, and have realistic expectations!
ReplyDeleteHappy fourth (a day late!)
Emily
PS I think you'll identify with this one!

Does sound like a Rockwell picture. We don't live around family. So ours was pretty low key.

ReplyDeleteAnnmarie...Just sleep in your clothes...takes me back to our childhood..we did just take, lots of times. Hope your holiday was everything your son loves.:):) Smiles, Susie
ReplyDeleteThat sounds fantastic...even sleeping in cloths. A toothbrush is all you need! Or Off, or lip gloss...that's it. No sheet, pillow, slippers... oh yes and a swim suit. Oh yes and a beach towel. that's it. And food to share. And sunglasses. That's it. And sunscreen. That's it. Fun! that's it.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good time was had by all.
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining the fun at Dreaming!
I am following you now.
:)
haha i can picture her saying just sleep in your clothes..my favorite part was when you said "lets get together"-same thing you say last year. Aunt Barbas is always a celebration, celebrating our country, the values we hold with each other, our freedom, but most importantly-celebrating family. No matter how big or oppressive a government may become, one thing they can never take from us is family. Cheers to family!
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I like the "keep it simple" attitude, makes for a much more relaxed time.
ReplyDeleteOh, my... THAT sounds heavenly!
ReplyDeleteLove the picture that you just painted in my mind..A picture of what America really is made up of, thanks. xo
ReplyDeletesounds fab.
ReplyDeletei want to come next time!! :)
SOunds like a dream! Can we come?
ReplyDeleteSounds great! Just as the 4th celebration should be; family, fun, food and the best thing --- memories! (hug)
ReplyDeleteAnnmarie, That is just the way the 4th of July should be...family and/or friends...just loving life! On the third we were with friends for a cookout and viewing fireworks from a boat on the lake and on the 4th it was a cookout and adult beverages with more friends on their party dock! Life is good! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
ReplyDeleteWow, that sounds amazing! That would be my favorite holiday too!

ReplyDeleteAh, sounds great. We don't have any celebration that is the equivalent of that in England. I don't mean the equivalent of getting independent from England obviously - :) just a day when everyone celebrates and has a good time
