Why Utensils Are Important
Well, this was a "group" party...where half of the alphabet brings a dessert, the other half brings a salad and everyone chips in for pizza and soda. There are tables full of homemade and store bought foods in plastic or aluminum containers. Everyone knows to let the little kids go first, but really everyone is just as hungry as the little kids. In front me is a big man. They give him one slice of pizza..he looks at that one skinny slice like, are you kidding me? Then he heads off to those tables, still in front of me. He reached first for a spinach salad. There was only one metal fork in the salad and it was awkward getting the salad out. He spilled the salad on the table and the dressing got all over, he picked it all up with his hands and put it on his paper plate. Next he went for the fruit salad..and there wasn't any utensils in it. I gave him my plastic fork and told him he could use that. He was happy with my help. Next he eyed the mango salsa, and then looked at me. I shook my head no and said, "finger food only." We didn't even know each other...he laughed and said ok. We both went for the cookies.

Pizza and cookies, sounds like my kind of picnic. Pepperoni and chocolate chip.
ReplyDeleteI love forks and knives. :)
ReplyDeleteMoral of the story:
ReplyDeletealways bring your own utensils - - and use your fingers when nobody's looking....
hands work wonders. i do it all the time. i learned that lesson real fast when i eat at an indian restaurant ... it works pretty well. once you get the hang of it any ways. ha. ha!! (:
ReplyDeleteYes, bring your own utensils.
ReplyDeleteI agree, that is one the easiest things forgotten at a party and one of the most important.
ReplyDeleteTotally!
ReplyDeleteBut cookies are good also! :)
lol, yep, I can see now that utensils are important ;)
ReplyDeleteYour lucky day? lol
ReplyDeleteAnnmarie, Fingers, dip chips or 'scoopers', toothpicks, tongs, chopsticks, plastic disposable 'dinnerware'...it all depends on what the food 'challenge' is at one of our neigborhood parties. All's fair in food and war! My big pet peeve are 'double dippers'! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
ReplyDeleteI am sure you made him feel much better about his clumsiness. It is always good to share a laugh.
ReplyDeletepizza and cookies sounds like a good meal to me ;) I once went to a eatery that served food that was intended to be eaten with the hands, no forks, spoons or kives to be found, it was a great experience, almost made me throw all mine out when I got home, LOL
ReplyDeletei now see why utensils are a must
ReplyDeleteLOL Too funny!! :)
ReplyDeleteFunny. I'll bet there will be a part of the alphabet reserved for silverware next time.
ReplyDeletehaha. glad he listened...and the cookies are probably a good bet any way...smiles...
ReplyDeleteI'm always the one person who remembers the plates, napkins, and plastic ware. People are thankful. ;) Followed back on your follow from MBC, and thanks for commenting!
ReplyDeleteLOL- Gotta love a guy like that...I like anyone I can share a laugh with. I say next time...bring ALL finger foods! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteAnything that's remotely buffet, scares me a little... especially the utensils. I don't know where those hands have been, that get there before me!
ReplyDeleteUtensils are QUITE important! lol!!!
ReplyDeleteYou needed to find some chips to scoop - hope you had fun. sandie
ReplyDeletePot lucks are interesting in more ways than one.... food, eaters..
ReplyDeleteOh no, lol, I always try to remember to take a server with my item for that very reason.

ReplyDeleteUtensils who would have thought we needed them so much...........lol
ReplyDeleteyep, gotta have a knife and fork, even on picnics. don't like messy fingers. x
ReplyDeleteFunny things in life:)
ReplyDeletemango salsa sounds great, but I guess cookies are the best!
ReplyDeletewent for this event and at the buffet, there were no utensils or cutlery AT all. all arrived after 30 minutes.
ReplyDeleteUtensils come in quite handy, lol
ReplyDeleteI suppose he could have scooped the mango salsa with a cookie!
ReplyDeleteI guess we know now the moral of this story :)
ReplyDeleteHow funny! Sometimes people just don't think! I think I would have gone for the cookies too!
ReplyDeleteCookies always make the best utensils :)
ReplyDeleteyou make all around you laugh..what a great gift to us all!
ReplyDeleteA new kind of diet...Lots of good food, but no way to get it onto a plate. It's a visual thing! LOL!
ReplyDeleteWe weren't born with utensils...civilization invented them....I always let my kids get their hands in their food when I was weaning them....made them enjoy the experience a while lot more...I still love to use my fingers wherever possible...but have taught the children public manners..lol
ReplyDeleteOh sad, I can only imagine how ackward that would be! :)

I'm actually guilty of forgetting to lay out the utensils. Someone had to track me down at our Easter party to ask where they were. Ooops lol.
ReplyDeleteWonder who was supposed to bring the utensils? :)
ReplyDeletehaha this somehow reminded me of when my niece was about 6, we were at a anniversary party for my aunt and uncle, we look over at my niece and she is eating the mints out of the mint bowl but with the serving spoon!
ReplyDeleteI always get a giggle out of your small scenarios in life.
ReplyDeleteFunny! Can't serve without utensils:) Have a blessed day, HUGS!
ReplyDeleteSmiling ear to ear here. No one ever forgets the food but seldom do they remember utensils.
ReplyDelete^_^ my mom always refused to bring any untensils because two parties in a row they went *poof* and well, it got expensive. wish we had cookies too :-(
ReplyDeleteHI!!

Yes, utensils are always a good thing to have when eating.
ReplyDeleteWhat a good ice breaker.
ReplyDeleteThe devil's in the details, as they say; in this case the details include providing serving utensils! It was nice of you to help the man!
