The Democrat convention scene:
Speaker #1, "ABORTION! YES! Anytime!" Loud cheers of support.
Speaker #2 "ABORTION! YES! Anywhere!" Thunderous applause.
Speaker #3 "ABORTION! YES! Any age!" The crowd is wild in agreement.
Speaker #4 "ABORTION! YES! Any Reason!" Over the top glee.
Repeat.
Without human life nothing else matters. Without life the common good has no value.
Many times I have tried to figure out how a Christian could vote Democrat. I have told my husband and anyone else who will listen that if ever the Republican party even THINKS they are going to entertain that idea, I will be done with them too and so will millions of others too!
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine that there are broken hearts of good people who had no idea that their Democrat Party had gone over the edge like that and what a total shock it was to see those speakers over and over again...such extremes I have never seen in one setting and so very proud they all were about it.
One thing I must say if you don't mind. Abortion, has to be the biggest lie told to women. I can not tell you how many women have confessed to me that they are tortured every year when that day rolls around...the day that baby was to be born...the hell they live through because someone told them it was "Their right as a woman".
Thank you for this post and for loving the innocent unborn child.
Sherri Bryant
I can think of a million and one other reasons as well, but yeah...
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, it seems to be getting to the point where they can't vote Republican either. :/
I am against abortion...abortion cheering is a sad comment on current public thinking. I have a family member, democrat, against abortion, who did not win the seat as a state representative. He would have been great in government and pro life. I do not usually comment on political topics, but I needed to back you as to anti-abortion.
ReplyDeleteWhat state do you live in? Friend of Ann's. Jane
DeleteThat's me above...sometimes my blog gets a mixed signal. Hear hear.
ReplyDeleteAmen and amen. Nothing more needs to be said.
ReplyDeleteAmen.
ReplyDeleteSoo scary! =[ People have gone mad!
ReplyDeleteAmen and amen.
ReplyDeleteAmen. And I still don't get it that some people think you can.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Amen and amen. I am so looking forward to seeing all your commentors agreeing with this. :)
ReplyDeleteAgreed and amen.
ReplyDeleteAmen to that, and so many other reasons as well. Thank you for taking the time to speak to the value and protection of life.
ReplyDeleteLiz
I don't think the government should have a say in our private, personal lives, whether it's this, or how much and what we eat, or what size drink we buy. God allows us free will, even if the choice we make is wrong.
ReplyDeleteWell said.
DeleteDitto - well said.
DeleteI too agree that government should have no say in this or any other part of our lives. I am against abortion, but do not want government telling me what I can and cannot do with my choices...that is for God and God alone.
DeleteIf the companies that receive government funding to perform abortions rejected that funding, that arguement would be more solid.
DeleteThat being said, the aborted child won't ever get the chance to choose what they eat or drink.
God's free will doesn't mean we are free to sin. The wages of sin is death. No, Christian freedom is the freedom to serve Him, not to destroy our neighbor.
Roe v. Wade is a perfect example of "the government telling us what to do"!! From America's founding, "the people" had the power. The people speak through their elected officials. Some people in some states, by popular vote, voted abortion illegal. Then ONE MAN, an unelected Federal Government worker, sitting on the Supreme Court in Washington, DC, wrote an opinion and convinced some of his fellow unelected government officials that they should take all the power away from the people. That is what Roe v. Wade is, an example of one Federal Government Official (an elderly white male who graduated from Harvard, by the way, not a representative member of the middle, working class) telling all of us what we can and cannot do!
Deletethey government says we can't be prostitutes with our bodies.
DeleteDon't you think that we should stand up for a life that is going to be killed? I could not say, I do not support slavery but it is up to them and their free will. I think in this case it is not free will that people are talking about...It is really moral relativism. If I do not think it is wrong, then it is not wrong. No one cannot deny that the unborn are the most defenseless life and they need protect from bullies. The unborn cannot be compared to a super-sized drink.
DeleteThey cheered abortion and booed God. I am so sad at the reality that is unfolding in front of me. I just keep praying. I don't know what else to do. Thank you Mom of 8, for posting what needs to be said.
ReplyDeleteWe CANT vote for Anyone who does not believe the word of God.
ReplyDeleteAbortion is murder, no sugar coating it!
Thank you for standing up!
Betty Hall
I do not advocate the overturn of Roe v. Wade nor do I think it will ever or could ever happen. Years ago women were dying because of back alley illegal abortions which was very disturbing although in today's world of birth control and less of a stigma on unmarried pregnancies that might not be as big an issue today. THere must be some reasonable restrictions, and there should be some attempt to council and think this decision over.
ReplyDeleteIf abortion is to exist it should certianlly not be a cause for celibration.
To be cheering over this issue is desturbing to say the least.
Sorry, you must watch too much Faux News. No one cheered 'abortion any time, any age, etc.) and no one booed God. Time for you to get into the 21st century and turn off Rush Limbaugh and his hate-filled propaganda. No one is forcing you to have an abortion. I am personally against it, except for rape and incest. Tell me you would carry a rapist's child and raise him/her and I know you are the misguided one. Four More Years!
ReplyDeleteThen how about not voting democrat because they Booed including God in their platform? Or that they rejected gift baskets from the local Christian Churches because "You don't believe in abortion"? THESE THINGS HAPPENED. I don't need to listen to any radio guy to recognize the many lies this President has told, and he's probably doubled that amount in just the last two weeks! Perhaps you listen to too much of the news-from-the-left on CNN and MSNBC. You might want to dig into a few of the things your guy has gotten caught in- particularly the Libya thing- and maybe instead of saying 4 more years, you'll sing a different tune.
DeleteCome on over to my blog, anonymous, and read my post on the Libya mess. I'm not afraid of trolls.
CNN is in the middle...first thing propaganda does is marginalize other news sources. You are too ignorant to figure this out. As a Christian, you are OK with the hate spewed from Faux News and Rush. The churches I grew up in preached compassion for your fellow man/woman. By voting Republican, you must have skipped that part...Good luck reconciling your faith and all the hate from the far, far, right...
DeleteWow, anonymous. hard to believe you actually grew up going to church . . . your comments are filled with hate and judgmental intolerance.
Deleteust what I was going to say... but what do you expect from a troll. Frankly, the lamestream media does enough to marginalize itself. Trolls like anonymous help that out, and if he/she were as intelligent as they think, they'd see how everything they say is a contradiction. BTW, troll, the invite's still open.
Deleteha...and read your own comments and tell me they are any better...kills me...yep that is pretty much the ostracizing church i grew up in..praise jesus...
DeletePitiful responses...call Rush tomorrow and he'll tell you how to think...
DeleteI learned to think for myself a long time ago - I don't need Rush, or Sanda Fluke, or you, or anyone else to tell me what to think.
DeleteI watched it. They did Boo when The Dem said they would put God back in. As for growing up in the church that taught compassion. They do preach that, but they also preach the word of God. If you read the word you would of known Thu God forgives and shows use mercy,we will still be judged for what we do. You spoke of others as haters. Just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't make them a hater. They just see thing different from you.
DeleteHey anonymous, I think I might borrow some of your comments to use on a post about the stupidity of trolls. Feel free to stop by this weekend and see how it comes out!
DeleteAnonymous, Trolls, Haters,
DeleteFor anyone to agree with abortion, they have been indoctrinated. Compassionate people who have been in the abortion industry (yes, it is an industry and NOT a medical service) have quit after seeing live babies getting torn limb from limb. There is the real education. It does not come from indoctrination, but being willing to face the reality and most people who are against abortion know this, they understand the severe pain that happens and the many abortion surviors out there will tell you that surviving such torture is not cake walk as they are usually left with physical problems to deal with all through their life. So please explain how the pro-choice are just "parroting" Rush Limbaugh or whoever else when in actuality they are very, very well informed of what happens to these babies.
There is no hate in giving a voice to those that have none...that is amazing love...from numerous strangers. Compassion from people who will most likely never meet these babies, we may never know who these people are, and yet...they have been given a voice and sometimes even a chance. Where is the hate in that? Since when has it been hate to try and let an innocent child have its life? In some cases it may not be much of a life, but it is still a chance.
Please...do not judge until you have asked the question, "what life experience did these people have to get them to their beliefs today." If you do not, you are guilty of intolerance and supposedly democrats and liberals are all for tolerance.
CW, I've had my fun stirring the pot here, but truthfully, the religious right bores me. I have no interest in reading your nonsense. Do you also believe in the Easter Bunny?
DeleteThat's okay, my arguments are intelligent for you. As for what bores you, thank you for establishing yourself as a troublemaking troll. Too afraid to self-identify, too afraid to come over to my place and have me put a mirror to your face. Feel free to crawl back under your rock, I know your kind, and I know you'll stick your head out again sooner or later where people with real ideas and a sense of morality will play whack-a-troll with you once again. Too bad you won't come over, though, I am sure my readers would have found you just as "entertaining" as this group has.
DeleteThis is a hot-button issue for me. Why is it ok to protect the life of a fetus, but not give equal life protection to soldiers, people on death row, evil heads of state, etc.? A life is a life. I AM a Christian and a Democrat. I am not cheering over the issue however. I believe that ALL life is worth protecting.
ReplyDeleteInteresting thought, I was just commenting this myself on another blog. Here's the thing that I'd like to know... Why are we so big on connecting politics and religion? Division of church and state was thought up a long time ago by some very smart people for a really good reason.
DeleteSeems if we got back to the separating, we could focus on the bigger issues that this country faces.
I would not say that I am Republican or Democrat. Both sides have issues that I do not support....death penalty..the war... But I do know that the most defenseless human being and their mother need protect. No mother really wants to kill her child. She feels forced into it because she does not have an advocate.
DeleteI will say it too: Amen! I admire your bravery. And, for the record, God-forbid I was ever raped and conceived a child, I would love that child into this world and create a beautiful life for him or her. Just sayin :)
ReplyDeleteAs my daughter was getting older and we had the 'talks', the subject of abortion and rape/incest needed to be discussed. My words to her were, "Why should that innocent baby, that is half of you, be killed for someone else's mistake?" We discussed the fact that it would be very, very difficult to deal with, but that God would always bless the right decision and always be there to help....I appreciate your words Jenna.
DeleteI feel the same way.
DeleteHonestly, don't we have other things to be concerned about as a nation? Not to minimize this issue at all, but really???? Does this have to be the MAIN issue on every political platform?
ReplyDeleteI have had to educate my sons far more than I thought I'd ever have to at this age (10 and 11) simply because of what they are hearing on the political stage. *sigh*
Seriously.
ReplyDeleteAmen.
Did you see Carolyn Kennedy at the DNC? Really. She basically sold out Catholics everywhere.
I must admit that I was shocked to hear her say those things. I'm sure her mother would have been mortified!
DeleteI didn't watch the convention but it seems to me to be a pretty sad thing to be cheering for.
ReplyDeleteWhat's even sadder is I'm not at all shocked!
because guns kill less....and cutting social programs is what the good samaritan story is all about....
ReplyDeletenah, i def dont believe if i have to be a republican...
actually i am independent...both parties are flawed and i think the whole link between republican and christian is ... i will bleep that out for the fam...smiles.
sorry you caught me at the wrong time...smiles.
ReplyDeleteone bad apple doesn't make the whole batch bad. is poverty less important than abortion? isn't promoting the social inequalities that lead to abortions just as evil? (84% of all abortions are performed on lower and lower middle class women) (African american women are 7 times more likely to have an abortion than white women are) (single women are 20x more likely to have an abortion than married women are) are these mere coincidences? I think not. let us work to end these injustices that lead to unintended pregnancies, then we eliminate the need for any women to feel a desire to have an abortion. simply saying you are pro-life is not enough. you want to end abortion? well, address the things that lead to abortions. Moreover, interestingly enough, under the last REPUBLICAN president, abortion rates did drop among middle and upper class women, but they rose 29% among poor women in the 8 years he was president. While under the current president, abortion rates in the United States have dropped 6% across the board! So much for the cheers-seems like those people have been lied to..
ReplyDeleteI find it hard to believe that any President can be held responsible for any woman getting pregnant or not. If we are going there, we had better talk about what party may have been in control of Congress at the time or what states had the most abortions and who the Governor was..but then you would have to take into account who was in control over that states House also.
DeletePlease do tell how George W. Bush made 29% more poor women have abortions during his 8 years...perhaps you might lay the blame with the man and woman that had sex and then decided that they didn't care for the result.
I am with you 110% . My husband has a friend who is a "secular humanist" and a democrat. As Americans, we believe in "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness." He says he doesn't believe in the right to life, but in your right to not be murdered. What's the difference?
ReplyDeleteI was brought up in a strong Christian family and I am a democrat ... But I also grew up in a very very very strong Republican state -- and sadly, I have never seen it be a good state -- we have been the butt of everyone's jokes for at least the past 4 republican governors... lol :) I believe that you can stand up for your beliefs in Christ and politics ... I also was raped when I was a teenager and got pregnant from that rape and made a choice to have my baby live with another family as I knew I was too young to care for him myself... so not all democrats believe in abortion :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for showing that this is not democrat or republican but it has to do with the person making the choose.
DeleteHave been reading through here and couldn't resist a reply on this one: "Thank you, Julie, for not destroying that tiny life within you who arrived as a result of your being raped. I have never, fortunately, been raped, but I can certainly imagine what a horror it is; and how hard and painful it must have been to find yourself pregnant because of it. Making the right decision isn't always a painless decision, as I am sure you know. But, even though you had a horrific experience, that little baby was totally innocent and WAS LIFE, and you did right to not snuff out that little life. God bless you and your child for your decision.
DeleteI am a Christian and I vote Democrat. We exist, I'm living proof. Being pro-choice is not being pro-abortion. I would never have an abortion, but I also don't believe in telling people what to do with their own bodies (just like I don't want anyone telling me what to do with my body). I also don't find it very Christian of most Republicans who believe a woman with no means to care for a child should have it, but have no desire to help her with said child once she gives birth to it. Many Republicans also don't believe in promoting sex ed programs and birth control. People are going to keep having sex, so either work to help them prevent pregnancy on the front end or be ready to deal with possible abortions on the back end.
ReplyDeleteYes! Thank you.
DeleteHave to reply to this one, too: I've never been one to say that "only those who vote Republican are Christians" - that's not true; there are Christians among all of the political parties. And there are "pro-choice" people, unfortunately, among all the political parties. However, I must totally disagree with your comment "I also don't believe in telling people what to do with their own bodies...", my point here being that once that baby has been "made", it is no longer simply a question of "my own body", but now a question of ANOTHER little body; a life besides my own. And we do not have the right to snuff out that little life, whether it's convenient or not. I don't "tell a woman what to do with her own body" when it comes to things like: have a face-lift or not, enlarge the breasts or not, have a tummy-tuck or not, etc. ... but I do speak up when it's not a question of telling a woman what to do with HER body, but what to do with ANOTHER little body. Also your "I also don't find it very Christian of most Republicans who believe a woman with no means to care for a child should have it, but have no desire to help her with said child once she gives birth to it..." is a fair assessment, as there are many individuals and groups and organizations who DO help women like that. This is pretty much ignored in the mainline media - they concentrate on the hardship of having the baby and give the impression that there are no compassionate and understanding people/groups out there to help. Not true. As far as "pro-choice" - women AND men DO have "choice": they have the choice to HAVE or to NOT HAVE sex in the first place (apart from rape)... and they have the choice, if they do decide to have sex to use any number of BIRTH CONTROLS, men included. However, the term "pro-choice", as it is currently used, means "pro-abortion" ... truth is truth; if it is WRONG to kill life in the womb, then it is wrong to not tell others the truth - it is wrong to say "let them have the choice to kill the baby or not" - it is wrong to NOT speak up against abortion. As a Christian I know God is totally against us killing life in the womb; and I also know that Jesus Himself spoke out against "wrongs" and didn't give people the "choice" to choose wrong or right. I can be completely caring and compassionate about the circumstance of a woman's pregnancy, but I cannot condone "doing away with the pregnancy" and I cannot condone legally "giving a woman the choice". If truth IS truth, we cannot keep one foot in truth but give another the "choice" of wrong or right; at least, we can try to change laws that try to undermine truth.
DeleteWhoa, girl. Get. It. I admire you honesty.
ReplyDeleteI see two problems with making a statement like "why a believer cannot vote democrat":
ReplyDelete1) The person making the statement assumes a position of moral infallibility over anyone who disagrees. However, we are all infallible people who see through a glass darkly. As a citizen, one must do one's best to make an informed opinion. However, one can disagree with others without attacking their character.
2) History shows us the danger of aligning our faith with one particular political view. Presbyterians in South Africa were largely responsible for keeping apartheid in place. Many church-going Christians in Germany, both Protestant and Catholic, passively watched as Hitler murdered and plundered his way through Europe. And in the US, many Christians supported the system of slavery and used the Bible as evidence of their views.
It's okay to have strong opinions and argue points, but let's do it out of Christ's example of humility and loving our neighbor.
Hi there, it was "how a believer can vote democrat" but you know, its just like homosexuality..and how Chick-fil-a backfired. The example would be in making it all mandatory (removing freedom of choice like in schools etc.. But the list just grows as this administration has drawn a line. Sharia law is the real threat as we know it..yet we aren't supposed to believe Islam is a problem? All we need to do is look at Israel, Europe, Sudan, Nigeria, Somalia, Thailand, the Philippines..all over the middle East Christians are being slaughtered! In reality, the war on free speech is underneath the whole LGBT as Obama and Clinton are kissing up to the very political idiology that hangs gays from cherry pickers? Republicans for the most part aren't pushing the above-
DeleteI think it was the Dutch Christian Reformed church not Presbyterians that kept Apartheid alive for so many years.
DeleteIf we mix politics and religion we can have some very scary outcomes.
We have laws that do not allow us to kill and yet abortion still exists. There is no difference between having an abortion, or killing a human being PERIOD. I don't care if someone says it's their body....after all who will speak for that innocent precious unborn baby? There are other options such as adoption. Sorry if it's an inconvenience, it's not ok to kill.
ReplyDeleteDanielle
I absolutely agree with you

Happy weekend to you , Annmarie.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting. Abortion is a crime..even though it is legal. And if a nation can kill babies
ReplyDeleteand feel no shame, what is to stop them from killing the elderly when they become sick and disabled? May God have mercy on America.
That's the root problem...the slippery slope. Once taking the life of the preborn is sanctioned, where does it stop? The elderly are already being labeled as inconvenient, the disabled as well. Pretty soon, it will be those who are overweight, then those who wear glasses, etc. Once ONE segment of the population is deemed as having no value, we are all at risk of having the same standard applied to us. That is why abortion is fundamentally immoral.
DeleteAMEN!!!!
ReplyDeleteIn complete agreement with you! I don't know how they can, either, but there are some who will. So sad . . .
ReplyDeleteA big NO to abortion!
ReplyDeleteWow, I haven't even seen what you guys are all talking about. I live in Canada, and have not been following your political scene very closely recently. So, based on what I'm hearing, Wow, what was being said and what was cheered over kind of made me feel sick to my stomach! Granted, I will be the first one to say, our country is getting messed up as well, with the particular person in charge. Let's just say, he's not winning any popularity contests.
ReplyDeleteAs for a woman's body being her own, WRONG! Our bodies don't belong to us, they belong to God. In my opinion, the day you find out you are pregnant, your body is shared by 2 people, NOT 1 person, and you have a responsiblity to do what's in the best interest for your baby. Your baby can't speak for themselves. They are helpless, totally dependant on you. Like it or not, your baby didn't ask to be conceived.
I'm sure this won't be popular by some folks, but oh well, some things just need to be said.
well said.
DeleteI am Canadian and I voted Conservative. Thank God the conservatives were at the helm during this global recession, we as a country have fared well because of them.
DeleteGirl, you really got a debate started here:) I am against abortion and vote Republican for lots of reasons! Have a blessed day dear friend, HUGS!
ReplyDeleteIt is so sad the mindset that our current society has.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I wrote a post on it awhile back, too. Instead of comments, I got a lot of emails bashing me. We have to fight for what is right, according the our beliefs, and what we find in the Bible. Should we tell people what to do with their bodies? No. But should we fight for what the Bible tells us? YES! And to me, doing what the Bible and God say to do is far more important than doing what the world tells us to (and that is being ambivalent, and using "let them choose" as an excuse.) Here's a link to my similar post!
ReplyDeletehttp://13plumconfessions.blogspot.com/2012/09/if-you-deny-me.html
Amen!
DeleteHow's this for a choice?
ReplyDeleteRefrain! or Plan!
Follow the plan! Someone knew what HE was doing and it had nothing to do with politics...so sad that has entered into it!
Abortion is murder. If you don't think it is then you should read up on how it's performed and then read up on the baby's development at the stage he or she is being aborted. In just the first month of pregnancy a fetus can feel everything that happens to him or her.
ReplyDeleteAgree with you sis. It is so sad that the society are praising evil then good. How tragic!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you! I vote Republican for several reasons!
ReplyDeleteI'll be back later to read more comments. :)
You Go Girl!!!
TOTALLY agree. Unfortunately, though, Republicans can be just as bad in other ways by not standing with their own. They are very quick to distance themselves when one of their own comes under attack by the left because of what they say or write. Case in point, my husband with the very timid Republican governor of PA. And of course on a much larger scale, Aiken in Missouri. And I could go on and on and on...
ReplyDeleteMary Alice
Voting democratic doesn't mean that you agree with abortion. It means that you agree with choice and human rights. How can you say that no women can have an abortion but gay men can't be together or have children?
ReplyDeleteThis makes me very sad. I don't agree with abortion, but I would never condemn desperate woman to death at a back alley abortionis's. I am pro-choice.
ReplyDeleteI agree Francie!
ReplyDeleteAlso, above someone said, "how can you be a christian and be a dem?" How can you be a christian and pass so much judgement. How can the woman who posted this blog be a christian and pass this much judgement...
This is straight out of the bible, christian friends- If you're going to continue talking the talk you better check you self and also walk the walk...
Matthew 7:1-5
“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.
Luke 6:37
“Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;
James 4:12
There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?
James 4:11-12
Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?
And in condemning judging you yourself judge. "How can a Christian be a democrat?" is a QUESTION- as indicated by the question mark. And this is not a question that needs be answered by speaking evil of others, just a little common sense and your interpretation of being a Christian. The plain facts are that 1) there are many more things that the democratic party espouses that are against the basic tenets of Christianity than you will find on the GOP platform, and 2)the democratic party openly derided its leaders when they were shamed into adding the word God to their platform. These are facts, and I believe that in this kind of discussion, they are more than permissable even by those trying to avoid "judgement".
DeleteIts funny how one group will accuse others of being judgemental, when all they are doing is stepping on that group's sacred cows. Or how a group becomes "hateful" and "racist" because we express our faith as best we know it. Christians are EXPECTED to look at the world through Jesus' eyes and say, "This is wrong." If the owner of this blog wants to express her Biblically based opinion that life begins at conception, it is her right. If you want to dispute that on yours, go for it. And wondering why someone who supposedly believes what the Bible says would vote for leaders who are so opposed to so much of that Bible is a valid question, not a judgement. I guess you will have to face the mirror and see if voting democrat is in your comfort level.
Wow. Quite an active conversation going on here!
ReplyDeleteMy sis-in-law is a strong and liberal Democrat. Recently she and other family members hotly debated issues like this. I played the piano and listened. Basically, she is absolutely for on-demand abortion and is strongly against capital punishment. So, kill the innocent unborn, but save the degenerate murderer.
What more can be said?
Well said!
DeleteJudge Not? There has always been confusion. One must read the entire passage. Matt. 7:1-5
ReplyDeleteBreak it down line by line. First, it is clear Jesus talks about judging BEHAVIOR, not PEOPLE. More important, Jesus did not say one should not judge the behavior of others. Rather, He cautions to live righteous lives so one's judgment of others’ behavior would not be rash judgment and their efforts would be effective in admonishing their neighbors.
Jesus explains how to judge rightly: "First take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye." There can be no doubt that those words are, indeed, permission to judge so long as it is done rightly.
Not Democrat or Republican, but in THIS ELECTION a believer CANNOT vote for Mr. Obama, regardless of your views about "social programs" or the "greatest good." You can help the poor on your own without being forced by the government to do so. The Catholic church has always taught this. There are a few behaviors that are intrinsic evil, and one CANNOT vote for intrinsic evil if the other candidate avoids that evil. Intrinsic evil TRUMPS EVERY OTHER ISSUE. Abortion, which ends the life of innocent, unprotected babies, is one of those intrinsic evils.
ReplyDeleteArchbishop Chaput explained this in a recent interview, first about abortion:
"I certainly can't vote for somebody who's either pro-choice or pro-abortion. I'm not a Republican and I'm not a Democrat. I'm registered as an independent, because I don't think the church should be identified with one party or another."
About "social justice":
"Jesus tells us very clearly that if we don't help the poor, we're going to go to hell. Period. There's just no doubt about it. That has to be a foundational concern of Catholics and of all Christians. But Jesus didn't say the government has to take care of them, or that we have to pay taxes to take care of them."

ReplyDeleteI think the most important thing to keep in mind in this whole debate is that when we speak about life and say we are prolife, we have to be consistent. That means knowing and understanding that the LIFE of the unborn trumps every issue in this election. We can go on all day about liberties and freedom but without the basic understanding of how precious life is and that it must be protected, we cannot speak of these other issues. Being Prolife means taking care of the poor, and treating every human being with the utmost respect and reverence they deserve. We cant choose to be for ABORTION and then say how we must take care of the poor. You cant be against the war in Afghanistan and be against the death penalty but still be for Abortion. You cannot pick and choose what Prolife means. Being Prolife means that all life, from the moment of Conception til Natural Death is PRECIOUS. The womb is and will always be the safest place for all children and what Abortion does is invade that space and kill the most innocent life imaginable. Its a travesty this goes on in our nation. How are we not protesting everyday for these innocent lives to be saved?
ReplyDeleteAnd when you say that there is a war on women and you support a party platform which allows and celebrates the fact that you can kill an innocent young baby girl in the womb, you cannot consider yourself prolife. That is the real war on women.
A very moving mean to measure time and life indeed.
ReplyDeleteI wrestled with this issue four years ago when standing in line at the polls. I didn't want to vote for Obama, but I really couldn't bring myself to vote for Mr. McCain either. After waiting and deliberating a whole bunch I actually ended up leaving with out casting a ballot at all. The whole American political system is seriously flawed right now. No matter who gets elected, we still have a very long way to go as a nation before this issue will be resolved.
ReplyDeleteI am against abortion...but it seems like neither side has done one thing about it since they began to kill these little souls.. :(
ReplyDeleteAmen - please every one - get out and vote!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteExcellent Post, it is actually sad that so many are considering reelecting this administration, abortion is wrong in my opinion, I know debates for health reasons come into play but an abortion just to do it is murder, I pray our voters make the right decision.
ReplyDeleteMurder is always wrong! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI also have a rather long question?

Very well stated.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very powerful post and I'm not sure if my jumping in will matter. I am a Democrat, a devout Catholic, a mother, a wife, but moreover, a woman who, from a long line of strong women, see our gender being discounted. My biggest "beef" with the Republican party is that their focus, on overturning Roe v Wade, compromises my Constitutional rights. I am, by no means, for abortion, but I am very strong about protecting my right to make that choice. And, if murder upsets you, I hope you stand on doing away with the death penalty as well.
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother told me that when she was expecting her 7th child, she was frantic knowing they couldn't afford another baby and afraid to tell my grandfather. She tried to abort the baby by using a knitting needle. It didn't work, but she got a life-threatening infection and the baby was born early. He passed away at 15 months old from a defected heart, something that haunted my grandmother for the rest of her life.
I believe in counseling women thoroughly before they make this choice, but in the end, it has to be THEIR choice. After all, In Luke 6:37, he said, "Do not judge and you will not be judged, and do not condemn and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven." Amen
Thank you for your post Mom! Life is truly a precious gift from God. As Christians, we are obligated to protect this gift from conception to natural death and to boldly take a stance against anything or anyone harming this precious gift.
ReplyDeleteWe must be on guard for the tactics of the evil one...surely it is him who is pitting mothers against their own children, husbands against wives, brothers against brothers - in the false and ugly disguise of choice. Be on guard for the false pride and promise he offers you.
For those persuaded that killing their baby gives a woman power or choice, I urge you go out and speak with women who have actually gone through abortions, who were born out of a rape situation, or who were adopted and given the chance of life by their mother.
I am sad to think that a third of my generation has been killed by the evil act of abortion. We are truly living among the land of the missing. In the US alone - over 5000 babies are being aborted EVERY DAY, over one million every year. We are killing our own family, our brothers and sisters, our cousins, our future leaders, politicians, doctors, lawyers, athletes, scientists, firefighters, inventors, saints....
We are living in the American Holocaust.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7y2KsU_dhwI
It is time to be brave, to put on Christ, to stand together, and to rise against the greatest injustice in our time - the killing of the unborn.
Every life matters, every vote counts.
Beautifully said. :)
DeleteIf there are 5,000 abortions a day, no one can tell me that is based even 25% on rape. There are far too many false rape allegations today. That destroys the father, is an excuse to kill the baby and then the women are rewarded for it. Shameful, completely shameful. I can only hope that we are given the chance to restart humanity.
Amen! I've discovered that I'm in the minority on the INterwebs and blogging community concerning this topic. I'm so glad to now know I'm not alone.
ReplyDeleteI know good Christians who do, but I have only voted for a democrat once. He seemed, at the time, the lesser of two evils. And it turned out I was right in that long ago case.
ReplyDelete=)
It's not about being for abortion, it's about the right to chose, giving women a choice. We, meaning you, cannot judge another's choice. Whether you're pro choice or not, it's about protecting your right to have an option of choice, not whether you're for abortion or not. Protect a women's right to chose.
ReplyDeleteYes, we all have the right to choose any course of conduct in any situation. But sometimes a particular choice in a particular situation is restricted because society values protection of persons or property more than the right to choose. One can choose to go through a red light, but that "choice" is restricted. Drivers who run red lights could argue that they are simply "pro-choice," and tell us we have no right to "judge" their "choice," but we all know better. Thieves who choose to steal can call themselves "pro-choice," but we know they are really pro-theft. Same with any issue, including abortion.
DeleteBarb, you have sadly bought into the culture of death. "Choice... " It's a lie. We cannot morally choose to take life. Period. There is no choice here. This is the holocaust of the 21st Century.
DeleteGreat Blog Subject. I agree with you! So many innocent babies killed. Father, forgive them!
ReplyDeleteThe whole abortion issue gets clouded with messages like "choice" and "rights" and "government telling us what to do". Of course we all like choices and we like to think the government should not tell us what to do. However, I don't hear anyone angry at the government for telling us we have to stop at red lights. I've not heard anybody squawking about the government insisting on proper trials before a prescription drug can go on the market. I don't hear anyone saying that the government should allow us to kill another person because they are causing us distress.
ReplyDeleteWhen talk of government and rights and even various religions are moved aside and the dust settles, the real issue is simply this... when does human life begin? Is there a moment during those prenatal days when the little being goes from being non-human to human? As a matter of fact, yes. That moment is called conception.
I don't want to judge anyone. In fact, I think it is important to help those who've had abortions to work through it to find forgiveness and redemption. What I can't do, though, is support the killing of a human being, no matter how sociably acceptable it has become.
Thanks for your courage to speak up.
Wow, I can't believe that was at their convention! You are so right, that without life, nothing matters.
ReplyDeleteBtw, thanks so much for coming by my blog and commenting on my Power of God post. Your words were so true- we know Who wins in the end- and what a blessing that we do!
Amen to that, Annmarie! Many in our country have become like the Phoenicians, Canaanites, and even the Israelites of the Old Testament in sacrificing their children to the false god, Moloch (2 Chr. 28:3, 33:6; Jer. 7:31, 19:2–6). But in our days, women are sacrificing their unborn children to the god of convenience. "human-being-ness" begins at conception. Human DNA is there in that fertilized egg at conception.
ReplyDeleteExcellent post!
I don't think that is exactly how it is. I vote Democrat although I don't consider myself one. The reason I am pro-choice is not personal, as in I see no reason why I would ever get one. I don't think I could have one or go through with it. The reason I am pro-choice is because it is not fair to force a women to carry an unwanted pregnant when it her body. For whatever reason she has. It is about personal freedoms and liberties. Religion has no place in our government. Our government is based on freedom of religion. With all that being said, Mitt Romney is pro-choice. Check out his track record. Just because he has totally gone against his convictions just to win a presidency, doesn't mean that's not what he still believes. I might actually vote for him if he was acting like the true person he really is.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog...
ReplyDelete8-years ago my "died in the wool Democrat new husband informed me that he would be voting for John Kerry for President. My question to my hubby was, "you're devout Roman Catholic, how can you vote for someone that is pro-abortion?" he responded; "Kerry's Catholic"... to which I replied; "obviously not devout, and perhaps soon to be excommunicated"... I left him with it that way... he voted for Bush.
I try to vote my principles and beliefs and not by party lines, but as one poster stated, the lines are becoming more and more blurred.
Mr. Obama is not only pro-abortion, he's pro-partial birth abortion as late as end of 2nd trimester! I wonder how he'd feel if that was one of his grandbabies being aborted 10-years from now? I can't bring myself to even consider him as a viable leader because I cannot get past that image. I couldn't care less if he was Democrat, Republican, Liberaterian or Wigg... At least at this point, we have a choice of another candidate that just happens to be a Republican.
And before anyone gets on a bandwagon, unlike a previous poster that believes religion has no place in government, I believe that government has no place in making medical decisions for women or men, regardless of their choices. But then that is a whole other can of worms so to speak.
I am actually pro-choice. My choice for myself is pro-life, but I know that I cannot make that decision for anyone else. I just don't think the Supreme Court or the Legislature has the right to make that choice for anyone else either.
For some reason I feel this was a bit exaggerated. I'm not sure anyone is PRO-abortion. Pro-choice on the other hand, yes. I don't know any pro-choicers who would gladly cheer on a pro-abortion speech. Do you know how difficult it is to go through with an abortion? I'm not sure anyone walks out of the abortion clinic smiling.
ReplyDeleteI think it's great to be pro-life, I'm sure everyone is pro-life in some way or another, but I think choosing the mother's life is more important when it comes to cases like incest or rape (especially if the mother is a teenager). Not only would the pregnancy/birth mentally and physically ruin the life of the mother's, but that child's life will forever be scarred, too. We all know we already have enough people dealing with mental illness in the world as it is. Imagine the guilt you'd be carrying around knowing you were the product of rape or incest. Yikes. :-/
Also, not to change the subject too much, but are you a Vegan? If not, you might want to consider adapting that lifestyle. A life is a life is a life... Right?
Just a thought.
This is the most flawed argument I have read tonight. An animal does not have a soul. A human life is inherently more valuable than an animal. And yes, unfortunately, there ARE people that are actually PRO abortion. You will encounter them at abortion clinics, usually driving their Mercedes out of the parking lot after raking in the money after having torn unborn babies limb from limb and throwing the "fetal remains" (ie: little hands, little feet, and tiny body parts) into the dumpster.
DeleteI'm tryng really hard here I am a christian But I do have to say I don't really want the government to tell people what they can do in such a personal decision. I for one am against abortion. And am the proud mother of an adult child who made the decision to keep and provide another woman and man with a baby they would not have had if it were'nt for her unfortunate choice to "be with a man" when she already had a child she really struggled supporting.I'm just afraid if the government starts telling people under what circumstance they can then where does it end? Even God made us with our own free will. Those who insist on an abortion will cause it. I'm not trying to start controversy it's just something I feel. I'm not endorsing abortion.
ReplyDeleteDo you realize that these aborted babies do not have a chance to get baptized? We assume, we pray, we hope, but we are not guaranteed that they automatically go to heaven. I have a girlfriend who has had 3 abortions. I have a sibling who has aborted more than one of their own children! And to think they could have been put up for adoption... the government may not be able to dictate our morality, and yes, we do have free choice, but this *is* taking a life, you know? Let the people who are going to do it on their own in a back alley, do it... but don't make it legal. What does this say about our mentality, and our society?
ReplyDeleteI'm your new follower & thank you so much for stopping by my blog with your follow as well. This post interested me because I have been a "political junkie" since I was 12 years old. I grew up in a small, rural heavily Democratic-voting community. However, I started noticing some trends during the 1976 election that would lead me to make up my own mind about my voting & party affiliation.
ReplyDeleteLet's face it--there are NO perfect candidates for any political office on the face of the earth. Man sinned...man runs government.(Mankind)With knowing that there's no perfect party or candidate, I base my vote on this: What party's candidate aligns themselves closest to my Christian values? To my moral/family values? To my patriotic values?
I believe we as Christians need to consult God Himself on whom HE wants us to cast our vote for & not for a particular party. Now, everyone on my Facebook page can see where I align myself more, and if you see my blog you'll know that my family is a military family who does not believe in down-sizing our troops. Some may say that we shouldn't "politicize our military" ... but since we are voting on who will become our Commander in Chief, our military community holds deep interests in who will be their boss.
I look forward to reading more posts & getting to know you better! Hope you & your readers have a blessed week :)
Abortion is wrong. There is no middle ground or on the fence with this. If a woman was actually harming her OWN body abortion would be NONEXISTENT. She has a choice to do what she will with her own body, not the body of a precious little child.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, I am a Christian and a Democrat, and I always get offended by this over-simplification of politics. Personally, I am anti-abortion, but I feel too many of the Republican policies are against other values that I hold dear. There is no charity, there is support of the death penalty, there is destruction of the environment, pro-military, a complete refusal to build consensus, and on and on and on. I choose to believe that on the one point that I disagree, people will be moral enough to choose life on their own. I think putting blinders on over one issue is irresponsible.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your post. I am opposed to the war and the death penalty. But over a million children in America put to death. I would be standing in the crowd trying to protect civil rights too. I wonder how we can ask God to bless our land when we are not protecting the babies and their mommies from making an awful decision. I know what you say about the one issue. But do you ever think that people who only vote pro-life just disqualify the proabortion candidate because they believe that if the candidate does not believe the most defenseless among us need protection and denies the baby is a human life....than how can trust the candidate to make other decisions.
DeleteIn fact no matter if someone doesn't be aware of after that its up to other visitors that they will help, so here it takes place.

Good point! I really don't know how people can vote the Democratic Party either. It makes me sad about those who call themselves believers.
