I had just two kids all weekend. Peaceful. Sunday night the 3 of us went to the Chinese buffet. The older son comes back to his seat with a mouth watering steak from the hibachi grill. It was perfect, looking and tasting. The 10 year old son immediately wanted the same thing and went over to the grill, put a steak on the plate and said, "I would like this with teriyaki sauce please." The chef said, "How would you like it done?"
My son said, "What?"
"How would you like it done?"
"With teriyaki sauce."
"Do you want it cooked medium?"
"Yes please. "
"Medium what?"
"What?"
"What kind of medium?"
"What?"
"How would you like it cooked?"
"With teriyaki sauce.
"And medium?'
"Yes."
"Medium how?"
"Um, medium low."
"There is no such thing."
My son comes back to the table with a char broiled most well done steak I have ever seen that looked nothing at all like the meat the other son had, and says, "Is this what I ordered?"
Thankfullyit was a buffet and so the steak could be left on the plate and a new plate taken to refill. You probably need to order the steak for him. And maybe cut the burned to perfection steak into pieces and puch it around the plate a little.
ReplyDeleteWe went to the China Buffet for dinner last night also. Yum-O. No steak though. I am sure it is different than yours.
LOL LOL This is so funny ...poor kid...poor cook :)
ReplyDeleteHahaha sounds typical
ReplyDeleteLOL...I still do things like that :)
ReplyDeletewe went the hibachi resto in out town the other day. hubby had a steak cooked perfectly. the good things is they asked. I actually, like all the way cooked... have a good evening
ReplyDeleteThat's hilarious.
ReplyDeleteHe could be MY child!!!
ReplyDeleteNancy
He probably won't let that happen again!
ReplyDeleteHilarious. Thanks for sharing. Sounds like you have a good Chinese buffet there. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteThis is funny. But did your 10-year old learn anything in the process?
ReplyDeleteAh, bless! The lessons we have to learn in this life are endless!
ReplyDeleteAwww poor kid. I'm smiling ear to ear about his teriyaki sauce answers though :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat answers from your son. Ordering steak can be tricky for adults as well.
ReplyDeletehaha I wholeheartedly agree with Stephen's comment. Much love.
ReplyDeleteHow funny!!! I could so picture that as I was reading. We like to go also but have never ordered a medium low steak but perhaps when I'm in the mood I will give it a try...hahaha..haha! xo
ReplyDeleteThat is hysterical! I hope you explained it to him!!
ReplyDeleteLove Di ♥
Medium low...sounds like medium rare to me.
ReplyDeletelol- I guess it can be tricky ordering steak for the first time. :)
ReplyDelete~Jess
LOL! Poor kid!!
ReplyDeletelol...we went to a steak house once and they came back and let us know they were out of medium rare steak....we could get it well done if we liked....we never returned...
ReplyDeleteI've been in this guys situation before. I'm not sure what some of these people are asking.I like buffets where I can pick up what I want.
ReplyDeleteLol! Sad excuse for a chef, though. You think he'd help your son out.
ReplyDelete<><
What a horrid chef. Wouldn't you think this would have been a perfect opportunity to educate a young lad in the culinary delights of his profession?
ReplyDeleteYou made me laugh. This sounds like that baseball joke about who's on first.
ReplyDeletePoor kid and bad chef!! Should have helped the poor guy out!!
ReplyDeleteOH my goodness... too funny!! :)
ReplyDeleteOh that's funny!
ReplyDeletePoor guy :(
they speak another language!
ReplyDeleteI bet he learns how to order a steak for the next trip, Poor Kid the cook should just have played it safe and cooked a medium well :)
ReplyDeleteAw, poor guy, it's even worse when the person next to you has something totally awesome.
ReplyDeleteThat could be a horrible experience for a kid. Poor chap... :p
ReplyDeleteYou said Chinese buffet? they have steak there? .....
Thank you for saying that: How can a believer vote Democratic? Half of the convention wanted to leave God out of the platform, too. In the Illinois Legislature Obama was the only one who didn't vote YES to give babies who accidentally were born alive from a botched abortion health insurance from the state. I realize people can change and evolve their values, etc. but I don't think he has. Linda
ReplyDeleteHi hi. Very funny. Nice story to start my day:)
ReplyDeletePoor fella. Next time he'll know how to order a steak.
ReplyDeleteGreat post... I'm your newest follower. Sorry your son didn't have a good dinner, though!
ReplyDeleteFunny, lol
ReplyDeletethat is too funny!! thanks for visiting my blog. followed back :)
ReplyDeleteOh lovely, I hope he soon gets the hang of ordering steak! x
ReplyDeleteHe needs a lesson like, steak 101... how to order. Poor kid, bet he was disappointed.
ReplyDeleteWhahaha... You have to train them up early... but honestly - Medium What? What's that? It's either medium or it's rare or it's well done... How many types of medium are there?
ReplyDeleteHi Annmarie, thanks for sharing with us. Well, miscommunication can happen but at least the chef should help your son out instead of kept asking the repeating question.
ReplyDeleteYou 10 years old must be very disappointed with charred steak!
Have a nice week ahead.
You have me in stitches. Jane
ReplyDeleteCute little one with his charred steak...but with teriyaki sauce:). Enjoy your day dear friend!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I hope the little guy could eat his meal . . .
ReplyDeleteLOL. That is too cute, hope it was still good!
ReplyDeletemakes me chuckle when I think about two little ol kids on a date making an order like this. funny stuff
ReplyDeleteHow frustrating for your little guy...but kind of funny too!
ReplyDeleteReminds me of, "Who's on first?"
ReplyDeletelol lol lol..... That is hilarious!! Love it! Excited to be your newest Follower!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a funny story!
ReplyDeleteFunny how we don't think about things like that - things we as adults already just "know". Now your son knows! :)

Awwww, poor kid, but that is super funny! Sometimes it is overwhelming trying to get your order just right at the buffet.
ReplyDeleteAwe! I love Hibachi grills. You can tell your son that the same thing happened with my husband when we were dating (early twenties) when the waitress asked him how he wanted his eggs. My husband answere, "Well done?!" LOL. I said, "scrambled will be fine." A whole conversation ensued how there was more than one way to make eggs. LOL
ReplyDeleteThank you for the follow, following you back<3

Chuckle, chuckle. I guess he now learned about medium the hard way.
ReplyDeleteYou have to start somewhere. Chalk it up to a learning experience!
ReplyDeleteThose are the best kind of recap conversations!! Know exactly what you're talking about! We just went to a Chinese buffet for lunch today!!!
ReplyDeleteJust too funny. I swear, I love your blog.
ReplyDeletepriceless--i know you all really enjoyed your evening out--nice memories huh :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so funny!!:) You should have taken a video! LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I could have done a better job ordering...
ReplyDeleteThis is so well - funny - but I was just as clueless when I was 10. I don't think I had it completely figured out until I was around 18 when I went to a steakhouse on a date and the date had to educate me on the finer things of steakhouse etiquette. LOL. I did get an incredible laugh at your son's expense. LOL again!
ReplyDeleteOh how funny.......well maybe not to your son! I get my steaks medium, just plain medium.
ReplyDeleteI think your son will never have steak again, at least not one that he orders on his own.
ReplyDeleteYour poor son. He must have felt bad. Good thing it was a buffet, hopefully went and reordered and got a better steak the next time.
ReplyDeletehahaha
ReplyDeleteLive and learn, eh?
;)
this is where "I'll have what he's having" comes in handy.
ReplyDeleteFor me: do it right, do it pink
Ah. Poor kid. Mean chef. Hope dessert was better!
ReplyDeleteA nice story. I think the chef could have helped him out a bit more?
ReplyDeleteLol, sounds like one of my sons.
