If We Only Knew...

My son is 16 years old and 2 days. He got his permit yesterday and will be driving to school tomorrow with my husband. He will also be dropping off his younger brothers at their school. Tonight he gave them instructions, "When I am driving you have to be quiet. No fooling around. And everyone has to wear their seat belts." Hahaha, unbelievable!

  2. That's good stuff! We are in the permit stage here, too. My 12 year olds won't drive with their sister yet!

  3. A different view from the drivers seat!! lol

  4. I. WILL. CRY. My Mom didn't let me get my license until I was 18! I'm kinda glad she did though. I was responsible, but these days it seems like babies are driving around!

  10. My son turned 16 in June and still hasn't gotten his permit. I told him to study the driving book and when he was ready I would take him to take his test and get his permit. I told him it is totally up to him (I don't really want the increased insurance right now....)A while back he told me I should be "pushing" him harder to get his license. Sometimes I feel like mom's can't win. Good luck and congrats to your son.

  12. Annmarie, This kid isn't missing a beat. It's evident that he wants to be allowed to continue to drive! No fooling around by his sibblings better mess it up! With priveledges comes responsibility... Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  15. haha no fooling around! OH, I'd be scared to see my (in the future) 16 yr old to start driving... but your 16yr old is amazingly responsible! (at least he sounds like it with his words ;-) )

  16. It doesn't seem like two years since my daughter got her license but it has been. Gosh I was always worrying every time she left the house! She's turned out to be a pretty good driver, I hope the same for your son! Love Di ♥

  17. Buwhahahahahaha, I can TOTALLY relate to this!! Happy belated to your driving guy!

  18. Bless him....and his parents! A new driver in the family always makes me a nervous wreck. Sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders, through =)

  19. Don't you hope he has that same attitude a year from now!

  20. I loved that your son is giving his siblings such sound advice. As a parent that would make me feel slightly better. As I recall "nothing" would have removed my extreme fear related to having my teens behind the wheel. We managed through those years unscathed, though...whwhwewwww

  21. That's great! You've taught him well.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Glad he knows that. I'm always nervous when a bunch of my kids are together with one of them driving.

  23. haha..sometimes it's just so funny listening to our children repeat us, isn't it?!!

  24. Those moments are wonderful to realize that things do rub off on our kids, even though we sometimes wonder!

  32. Let's see what he says to his friends. LOL

  33. Your son is very lucky. If he knew the hoops kids in Oz have to jump through to get a driver's license he would be the happiest kid on earth. Good for him for laying down the driving law though :)

  34. Haaahaaa, he is SO responsible! I LOVE IT. I wish more drivers were like him. But, I hope my kids never drive :)

  35. Love it!! I love hearing stuff like this, kids get us a 'unresponsilbe' rap nowadays.. Thanks for the follow & I returned the favor. <3, Amy @ Trials & Triumphs

  36. At least he takes his driving seriously! I always have and three years after getting my license my friends STILL call me "granny"

    ReplyDelete
  37. LOL! Driving is hard when you're experienced and have kids squabbling...let alone being a new driver!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Good on him! Sounds like he went through driver's training.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Funny! Hope he keeps on being careful.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Good for him! I have two drivers now. The first was a real wake-up call. The second I was a little more relaxed. Plus, they run errands. LOL

Following you back via GFC! Thanks for inviting me!

  42. That's great!

My son just turned 18 and also just got his license. He had a permit since January. I am happy to say that he is such a wonderful driver that I can easily sleep while he is driving. With my first two children, that was not the case.

    :) Hope

  43. That is incredible! I can't imagine any of my kids driving though I suppose the eldest will next year - scary thought!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Shows he paid attention in drivers training and listened to his mom....:)

  45. Oh, I remember those days...the paranoia, anxiety, etc. It soon wore off (sorry to burst your bubble!) And, I'm talking about MYSELF! I can't even begin to imagine the day when my son starts to drive!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. So funny...and my younger kids were so nervous to ride with my daughter...they were quiet anyway. So nice to have another driver for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  47. 8 more years for us. I'm already terrified!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I remember pulling over when my siblings were making fun of my driving and saying, "If you don't like the way I drive, get out of the car. Now." Not a peep for the rest of the drive, but man, have I copped it for the rest of my life!

    ReplyDelete
  49. You've got one responsible kid, there! Very cool :)

  50. What a great man you got there

  53. I only have 3 children. The first will never have a driver's license. I am thrilled. The second has had her license for years. It was scary at first and I still pray for her every time I think she might be behind the wheel. My son is 17 and has shown no interest in driving. I don't mind at all. My husband wants him to start thinking about it and it scares me to my bones. You are a brave woman and your son sounds wonderful.

  59. Isn't it the best when our sons become young adults - you must be so proud - I am of my two. My 18 yr old got his provisional licence this week so he can now learn to drive, but he can't afford to drive a family car as the insurance is around £2000 for our son per year,we have found it impossible to achieve. However, there is no hurry, UK roads are small and overcrowded.

  60. Our youngsters here have a culture known as 'Boy Racers', I think it's a uniquely U.K thing. Most are quite sensible, but it only takes a hothead to get out of control and he and his passengers end up on the mortuary slab. I hope common sense prevails with the youngsters in the states, you wouldn't want some of our idiots.

  61. As he always behaved when you were driving him around?

  62. Good luck with the new driver. It was always a very stressful time for me.
