What Is Your Personality Type?

Last Thanksgiving after dinner our family was relaxing in the family room. We were full, content and the dishes were done.  It was great atmosphere, and each one of us felt happy to be together. We were choosing game partners and I said "We can't put those 2 type A's together." None of the kids had any idea what I was talking about, so we told them about the pop psychology of labeling people by A, B, C and D personality traits that was all the rage when we were in college. They were so interested in this! What am I? What are you? They started researching on their laptops and phones. We discussed this at length. It was a fun dialogue, that I had not thought about since then. Yesterday, 10 months after that conversation, my son and I were driving home from practice. I said to him," Let's see who has more election signs, Romney or Obama. You count Obama and I'll count Romney." This is this first time in my life I have ever counted anything. My son was curious too and said ok, who do you think is going to win the election?  I told him about the discussion me and his dad were having the night before, and how I told my husband I think Romney is going to win, but now I feel so bad for all of those people who really believed Obama would make their lives magically better. My husband immediately said, "Ann Marie! Stop! This is near the end of a competition! You cannot show any weakness now! After it's over is over it's different." My son said, "You are such a D and Dad is such an A. That is why you get along so well."

  1. Oh that is too funny. Son is so perceptive....On another note, I remember a lady was interviewed after Obama won and she said she was so happy because Obama was going to give her a new car. WTH?

    1. Not far fetched from reality. The Obama Administration already gives away free phones and instead of calling them "goverment assistance," or "US Gov't Phones," they call them OBAMAPHONES!!! This is true - check it out at http://obamaphone.net/ Who do you think those people will vote for, especially after they receive a text messages reminding them to vote?

    2. I think she said "Obama is gonna buy my gas!" Sorry! Taxpayers are gonna buy you gas!

  2. Annmarie... I've been evaluated many times and it's always been that "A" personality. Now that I'm retired and I've learned who's really in charge at home, I'm just an "A" has been!

I loved the faux reporter at the Democratic Convention who was canvasing delegates for their support for a plank in the Dem Platform that 'outlawed' corporate profits so they could all be given to the workers in pay and benefits. An amazing number of people thought that it was a good idea while the more thoughtful delegates just wanted to 'limit' profits. Ahhh, the American Way! Too many folks just don't have a clue! 3. I hope the Romney signs outnumbered the Obama ones two to one! And, I think I'm going to have to look up those personality types . . . "A" is the only one with which I'm familiar. :)
    Blessings!

  8. Great story! I have only heard of type A people and I'm not one of them. I'm going to have to look up the other types.

  9. ha. studied the personality types when i worked in management...its actually a useful thing if you can understand people and what makes them tick....

  10. I only remember Type A, which must mean that most people are that or we would know more about the others--ha! Now I have to go look them up and see what the others mean.

  11. My husband is convinced there is, or at least should be, such a thing as personality deficit disorder. My daughter, who has her degree in psychology says no. Anyway that's probably where I would end up. BTW I've heard of A and B personalities, I'll have to look up C and D.

  16. Your newest follower from the blog hop! I love talking about personality types, my husband and I read numerous books on such things before we were married and it was one of the most helpful pre-marriage tools ever.

  17. I have no idea what type I am although friends have told me I'm an A. Since I have no clue what any of the types actually are...I just live in blissful ignorance and have a great time :)

  18. I have no idea what personality type I am. But I'm a Scorpio if that means anything.

  19. I'm an A and can be very hard to live with! Hubby is not an A, thank goodness.

  21. I'm not so sure how much I believe some test revealing your personality "type." Depending on the day and my mood, I score differently.

I guess my personality is "me." I'm not a "type." :-p

  22. I'm a Meyers Briggs ISTJ. I don't know the A,B,C,D types. But I do know your husband was exactly right. :)

  23. I will go along with Pixel Peeper's comment. Although thinking about it, that probably means I'm a type... Oh whatever the type who goes along with things is.

  24. I love hearing these stories, and esp. how personality types run in families..I think I might be a mix of A & D then :)
    &
    GO ROMNEY AND RYAN 2012!!!

  25. It's great that your kids see it works between the two of you despite your differences. Young people need those examples. My husband and I both have some type A but in different parts of our peronalities so we make it work.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Okay, if I was the kid I would be challenging and say what if you're between and A and a B? I'd be asking about black and white? Where's the gray? Yes, I remember these little tests. In some ways they do tell us something. I wouldn't bet the farm on them.

  27. Ha! They catch on, don't they?!! Love it :)

  28. Now that is a hoot! I think my personality type has changed, though, as I've aged-

  29. I have always thought I was a type D. And I thought D was something I made up because I am so far from type A, it isn't funny.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Okay, I've heard of Type A and B, but I'm not familiar with Type C and D. I'll have to Google those!

  31. What a fun story!! I have never checked into what type I am!

  32. I am surely type A...hubby also type A....somehow we've worked things out for over 33 years. I voted for Obama last time...liked somethings he did but others not so much. Like you, I think Romney is going to win in November. Enjoy your weekend.

  34. I don't know what type I am...hope it's a good one though!!

  35. Hum, I don't remember this at all. I do remember biograms (I think that's what it was called) where you were able to 'chart' your month by knowing birthdays. Last summer, I found my old plastic graph maker for this. Brought back many memories. As for the O vs R, I didn't vote for O last time nor will I be voting for him this time.

  36. Those personality types, varied as they are...surely do help us notice our strength...and why we match. Or not.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I like those color personality types best. Red, blue, white, and yellow.

I am equally red and blue. Which is maybe equivalent to A and B??

    ;)

  38. Haha,
    funny story.
now i'm curious about my personality type!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Just when you think they're not paying attention... I've heard of the type A, etc. personalities, but not the color ones that Sue mentioned, above. No idea what I am, but I know it's not A.

  40. A and B personalities here. It's a good combination. Another great topic of discussion for your family might be The Birth Order Book by Kevin Leman. I loved reading this and seeing how birth order affects personality types. Not sure how much stock to really put into it, but it's fun!

  41. I took the personality test a couple times in my life, but for the life of me I can't remember what they say I am. :( That's pathetic I know. However, I didn't feel it defined me as a person, so I didn't rememeber it.

Opposites definitely do attract because Del and I are as opposite as they come.

I personally have mixed feelings over who I want to win the election.

  42. It's so funny your son should bring up the topic after all this time. My dad was a type A. I'm afraid I have leanings in that direction, but I'm a lot more laid back than he was. He had a stroke when he was 58 by the way, which is why I don't care to be type A.

  43. Guess, that I won't fit a single letter.

  44. I used to teach a course on behavioral patterns. The curriculum I used did use to a lesser degree Type A and B personalities but relied more on the D (dominate) I (Influential) S (Steadfast) C (Conscientious) Most people that are evaluated by the DISC method have a prevalent behavior and a secondary behavior. My husband and I are both DC's

  45. Good for you two on the 2.75!

  46. I'm not sure what my personality type is...I will have to check though because now I'm curious. :)

  47. I'm pretty sure I'm a type A—and not so sure I want to be. :)

  48. That sounds like fun- your family discussing personality types and then months later it comes up in s random discussion. According to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator assessment, I'm an INTJ (Introversion, Intuition, Thinking, and Judging). I am "logical, critical, decisive, innovator of ideas, serious, intent, highly independent, concerned with organization, determined and often stubborn. My husband is an ENTJ (all the same attributes as I have but he's an extrovert, not an introvert). You can get a free Meyers-Briggs personality assessment here: http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp

I think Romney will win in a blowout election...just my opinion (and hope). People who still say they are undecided tend to vote against the incumbent (by 60 to 80 percent), according to Dick Morris.

  49. This is one of the saddest elections ever. The lies are flying around and some of them are ridiculous; some even cruel. The American people have been treated to some insane babble.

  50. Oh, I have never heard of these personality types.. now you got me curious and wanna know mine! :) It was the last day of my work assignment in Ohio last presidential election and in the airport, I learned that Obama won. I will never forget that day as it was a historical day. Ok, now on to researching about that personality type... :)

  52. LOL Are you sure they were talking of the test??

    ReplyDelete
  53. Haha this is hilarious! My hubby would totally say that same thing to me. Although if I said I felt bad about the people who thought their lives would be made better by Obama, he would probably disown me :)
