It's All About Perspective

My daughter's 5th year high school reunion is Wednesday. It seems to me my 5th year high school reunion was not too long ago, no way 28 years ago! I can clearly picture my high school classmates, the desks, the cafeteria, the teachers. I really don't believe I was in high school that long ago. I do not think my kids can even imagine me ever being in high school.
My birthday was this past weekend. The boys at home made me thoughtful, appreciative cards. Inside the cards the message included their sentiments "And for 51, you do so much!" Their perspective is that 51 is so old! My perspective is that life is just starting.

  2. I am fifty and feels that my life has just began:) lately someone leave a comment in my blog that it is nice that me and my husband are still sweet to each other although we are not young anymore:) so welcome to the club of the oldies. Just joking. Belated happy birthday:)

  3. Happy birthday!

I saw this the other day: 'the older you are the older old becomes'

  4. happy bday....and like Miller said, keep that perspective :)

  5. Belated birthday greetings. As I hurtle towards fifty I realise it is not old at all, whereas when my mum was fifty I was convinced she was ancient!

  6. Happy belated birthday! I remember when I thought 50 was old. Now my oldest daughter is almost 50. I still think of myself as young.

  7. Ha ha, My son thinks I am old too and I am 42. Dont worry, when they are the same age, it wont seem old at all.......

  8. Happy belated birthday. My 20th high school reunion is this weekend, so I know how you feel.

  9. Annmarie, I remember looking at 40 year olds and thinking that they were getting really old... Now I look at 80 year olds and think about how young they look! It's all about one's perspective... Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  10. My favorite years have been 36,42...and now I'm about to be 56 next June...for some reason...it feels like it's going to be one of my favorites too...I love being "old"

  11. belated happy birthday to you!! I like the way you think! I'm 56 and I'm happy now, I don't live in the past!

  12. Yep. I turn 40 in two months, and 40 is a lot younger than it used to be. Happy birthday to you!

    ReplyDelete
  13. your right about that!!! :) remember when we were younger though, didn't you think 40 was so old! Happy Belated birthday, here's to another 50 years!

  16. Happy Belated Birthday! The older I get, the more I feel life is really just beginning. With each year that passes I am more comfortable in my skin and can't wait for what the future holds. I like your perspective!

  17. Oh Happy Birthday! Belated anyway. Our age is all about perspective.

  18. Happy Birthday Annmarie!!
Isn't it funny how time changes our perception on age? When I was a teen I use to think 36 years old was very old and now I think 90 years old is very old. ;P

Hope you had a glorious day and this will be an amazing year as you continue to walk in youth!

  20. Happy birthday. I miss 51. It was a GREAT year. Let's just say, the 50's are a tough decade. It's amazing how many changes happen in the 50's. :)

  21. Happy Birthday! You're still very young. When I turned 50, my son reminded me that 50 is the new 40 and so on.

  30. We 50-somethings are a select bunch!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think it best to live by how old you feel, as if there were no calendars around. How old would you be if you didn't know when you were born?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Happy birthday! I hope you had a great day! 51 hmph? 51 is a fun year! For me it was great but like your high school it doesn't seem that long ago. My kids are old enough to start to see the reality. One wears bifocals!

  37. Well, I'm glad to hear someone say that! I was beginning to feel quite ancient at 59! And I know - doesn't 18 seem like just last week? Although I'm glad it wasn't. I am so much wiser now (believe it or not). I would like the body back, though.

  38. I remember when I was younger 30 seemed SOOOO old! Now I'm 35 and I feel so YOUNG! I think it's the times that are changing too...we have more possibilities to stay "young" for longer! My dad is 67 and I literally forget that he is that "old." By the way he takes care of himself and his demeanor, you would never know! AGE IS JUST A NUMBER! ;-)

My best wishes for future ahead...

  55. Nowadays 60 is supposedly the new 40. I was worn out at 60, but I was reborn a year later. Now I'm ten months short of 70, life's not bad at all.
    Belated birthday wishes.

  56. I was around 20 when Farrah Fawcett turned 30. In my great wisdom I solemnly stated that I hoped I would be that well preserved when I turned 30. I used "well preserved" for age 30. That was long ago.

  57. My Grandma always said she was 19years old, except those days she was 17years old! Like you said,it´s all about perspective :)

Thank you for stopping by on my blog and your feedback. I really appreciate that. I´m looking forward to follow such an experienced mom and blogger!I like you writing style. Your positivity shines through between the lines.

  59. When I was a little girl, I figured out that I would turn 52 in the year 2000. I thought to myself, "I might still be alive then."

  63. Wow! Happy Birthday! It's true that 50+ is not old if your attitude is young, and when hair turns gray, coloring it makes all the difference.

  64. Happy Belated Birthday! And I hope 51 is one of your best years yet. :)

  66. Great lesson in relative perspective on that age thing! Sounds like you had a great birthday. Want old? I went to my 40th high school reunion a few years ago. The one and only reunion for me.

    ReplyDelete
  67. LOL Love your perspective!! Happy Birthday! :)

  68. At 51, you're a spring chicken! Happy belated b-day! Hope it was great!

  69. I have the philosophy that you are only as old as you feel and as I still like to go out and do things like climb trees and run through corn I am still very young...when I am of an age where I can no longer physically do this I will still have my wonderful memories to reminisce on, with this in mind I am never going to get old and have told my children so!!

Oh and Happy Birthday to you too.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I swear as we get older it takes Longer and Longer to get "OLD"! I dont think I'll ever be old LOL

I work with some amazing people, who I just found out are all near retirment age! These people keep right up with me (I'm 33) in our very physcially demanding job. I'm amazing out how YOUNG old is!!

    ReplyDelete
  71. The biological clock doesn't slow as we age. Although it does seem to have accelerated. Then we hear things such as 50 is the new 40!

I think we are as old as we feel. But... it doesn't necessarily mean you're fit as 40 year old. It's related to your state of mind.

On that note, happy 41st. birthday! :)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Happy birthday!!!! Now I know the secret of looking so good at 51 - have lots of kids - they keep your runnin'! Yikes! Botox may be cheaper:-)
