Unsung Heroes

Finally, a good day.
My son was awarded the silent leadership award from his college. He does not know details, but cash awards are always appreciated... Also today we went to a nursing award ceremony for my daughter. She received a scholarship for graduate school. So far, so good! And the day got even better with the speech by the director of nursing. She described how modern technology transformed patient care...and elaborated on the wonderful and amazing advances in science. She went on to explain that despite this new technology, the best gift of all of us, is really the gift of self. It is the human touch, the human love, the human interaction that describes the great nurse. I have been thinking about her message and I am re energized with a new awareness! For the teachers, the coaches, friends, family... who do little things, often unnoticed, with great love. So many good people! What perfect timing to hear her perspective, just what I needed.

  24. Just what I needed to hear, too. Gives my heart hope in the face of the fate of the recent elections. That decent hearts beat in the chests of those whom God has called is more than enough for me . . .
Thank you, Ann Marie, for this uplifting message!

  34. Yes- coming from a hospital setting I can tell you how much the human kindness factor aids in healing. My hubby is a chaplain there and I think that interaction is sometimes helpful in the healing as much as the medicine. xo Diana

  37. I think sometimes we forget what that personal touch can do...often lending an ear is as good as giving a cure if the situation warrants it. If only more people would realise this and take the time to do so.

  38. Congratulations!!!You are raising your kids well!

  39. Congrats on the success of your kids! Human interaction, touch can never be replaced with things. God help us if it's ever thought a possibility. I had a boss who was so enthused by a story he read about a robot for the elderly who could get/do things at command. He thought it would be the most wonderful thing. The elderly I(and he) worked with longed most for a human, not a thing, to value them, spend time with them, talk With them - not at them. God knew what He was doing when He created us, YES HE DID!

  50. Annmarie... I totally agree! No matter what the technological advances are or just how amazing they are, in the end its all about the people who apply or utilize these advances. The human factor can never be discounted! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  53. There is never any medicine that is more powerful than being completely PRESENT in someone else's world. In today's high tech, way over paced society, it's easy to forget that.

  57. There can't be anything more rewarding to a parent that seeing your child succeed. The scholarships and whatnot are just the icing on the cake. Congrats to your children.
As a retired teacher, I know the feeling of being "unappreciated" both by students and parents, and I might add, administration. But, that being said, it was not why I was in the classroom. I was there to teach and guide students towards success. And, working with "special needs" kids, the rewards were slow in coming, but when they did...it was amazing. Those "aha" moments were truly, "AHA" moments!!!
Thanks for sharing your good news.
