Early in the week, my husband and I were sitting on our sofa in our bedroom, sharing a glass of wine, trying to chill a little before bed. We realized we were getting frazzled with daily demands and were thinking about strategies to be calm. I told him how I loved the composure of the saints, and how could they have been so calm in the face of all their trials? Especially since those trials were so much more than ours! How did they achieve that? How could we achieve that? As we talked, it dawned on me that maybe it is because they had peace, and peace only comes from God. We need to ask for peace in our lives. The next day and the next I prayed for peace. I knew the more of the world I let invade my life, the less peace I would have so I did not even have a radio playing. When I picked the boys up from practice I whispered back to them. They could not hear me over their loudness and so had to be quiet and still, very unusual. This was such deliberate work! That night was bunko and the hostess decided to give away Christmas door prizes. I won! She said to me, here pick something. I blindly chose a prize...might be the closest I'll ever get. Here is what I picked:
Wow, what a story! No coincidence there....peace is a must in the busyness of this season and I for one will take up your advice. Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeletePhilippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
ReplyDeleteThis was such a good thing for me to hear today. God's peace is there for me. I need to take it, just as you took the gift. Perfect.
You prayed for peace and that is what you got?
ReplyDeleteWho says God does not have a sence of humor?
You have 8 kids and you want peace? Even God can only do so much; so he gave you PEACE!
I'm still laughing!!
That's awesome.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I want a couch in my bedroom!
Ohhh nice! It's amazing how when you put it out there someone's listening!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a peaceful holiday :)
Annmarie:
ReplyDeleteGod was listening to your conversation with your hubby. I know it's not easy to maintain peace in our fallen world. But as you tell us it is very rewarding. I love the prize you selected.
You know how people have their word of the year and try to live it and integrate it into their lives? Well, you just found yours!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment,I truly enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your post today.
I also play Bunco.
I wish you and yours a happy holiday
Hugs
Amazing story! I love how you got your boys to quiet down by whispering to them. I'm going to try that with my kids. I need peace, too!
ReplyDeletenice...i like your bit of peace you got for your gift....and what a reminder it will make...you are right that the peace that goes beyond all understanding only comes from one source...
ReplyDeleteA great post today. Peace is elusive sometimes. I too strive for it.
ReplyDeleteExcellent!
ReplyDeleteOh I love it! Stress can wear me down so fast...especially if I let the outside world into my home.
ReplyDeleteAwesome lady! God was answering you back.
ReplyDeletePeace...one of my favorite topics :) Very cool story.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and I'm glad to have you aboard! I've joined your followers :)
ReplyDeleteFabulous post during this second week of advent. It is the week when we focus on peace. I pull that whispering trick with my classroom children frequently. I works for a day or two then it is back to normal. I hope the remainder of your week is peaceful. Bonnie
ReplyDeleteCoincidence? I think not :)
ReplyDeleteI like the way you pieced together this story about getting a piece of peace!
ReplyDeleteNice! How wonderful the boys quieted down to hear you, so rewarding.
ReplyDeleteWe do need to deliberately choose peace over chaos and noise. I think of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane the night before He was betrayed, how He chose the Joy of the Lord over fear.
So nice to hear stories like this, thanks for sharing.
<><
I do think we have to work to quiet our lives, all year long, but especially during December. I love that prize! What a wonderful 'coincidence' : )
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to remember the last time hubby and I sat on a sofa AT THE SAME TIME!
ReplyDeleteEven my eyes are smiling. Peace to you- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that! Someone is listening to you :-)

I love when that happens.....:)
ReplyDeleteI love it when you said you talk in a whisper to the boys and they had to be quiet to listen what you were saying. Gosh that's bliss hahaha.. I know how kids when they get together. The louder you talk to them the louder they get.
ReplyDeleteYour prayers were answered. :)
it's beautiful thing when things fall into place thank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteI would say that was NOT a coincidence! God knew you needed that Peace!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely PERFECT prize you won! I love it!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like 'The Secret' at work to me. But it could have been the Lord Almighty too:) Hope you have a very merry and peaceful Christmas x
ReplyDeleteLove it! A peace that comes from only Him... yes. A precious gift!

Good choice. We could all do with a bit of peace and quite to soothe our souls.
ReplyDeleteGreat post!!!
ReplyDeletePeace is one of the most sought after but hard to attain commodities in the world. I totally agree with you, I'd choose peace any day of the week!

ReplyDeleteI also think peace is a choice...yes, it comes from God, but we can choose to accept it or continue on our chaotic way...so glad you chose peace.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the God work.
maybe it was just a little confirmation...or a taste of the gift God plans on giving you :)
ReplyDeleteEver since the election was over, I've virtually stopped watching the news on TV and stopped listening to talk radio. I found great peace by doing so (I was so depressed at the election results). That is so cool that you won the PEACE prize! Better than the Nobel Peace Prize by far!
ReplyDeleteI love this post and I shared it on Google! Hope that's okay! I follow you, like you on Facebook and will try to find you on Pinterest! Blessings to you and Peace! Teresa from www.nanahood.com
ReplyDeleteHa! I see this (and love this) kind of thing all of the time! And of course I'm always grateful for the acknowledgment that the thoughts I'm having are from the right type of fruit tree. :)

God always answers that prayer.
ReplyDeleteSo very true peace is what Christmas s about
ReplyDeleteI love to give myself the gift of not tuning in to the news channel during the holiday season; that definitely gives me more peace...PEACE to you during this blessed season.

reminds me of my cheeky younger brother who used to come back from hostel and be fussed over by all of us - what do you want to eat, what do you want to buy, what do you want to watch, it was all about "what do you want" and the cheek of a guy would respond , I want something - peace of mind!
ReplyDeleteAnd peace is what we need more than ever this week!
ReplyDeleteHello, friend! I just noticed that you followed my blog so I thought I'd stop by and say "hi!" So...hi! Haha. I usually email new followers, but couldn't find an email for you. Oh well, I can still say hi and welcome this way. :)
ReplyDeletePeace is something I've been thinking about a lot lately, and I know that I've really been lacking it. For a season which is supposed to be about "peace on earth" I've been noticing more often than not, we don't have peace. Something for all of us to be praying about!
beautiful...
ReplyDeleteHi Annmarie! This is timely for me because "peace" is this week's focus of the advent study I'm following in my quiet time. I'm praying for Christ's peace to rule in my heart too.
ReplyDeleteWow, glad you found some "peace" x
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing story...and a beautiful prize!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great weekend!
Hi! I am glad to have found your blog! I am your newest follower and was kinda maybe sorta hopin' that you would hop on by and follow me back!

ReplyDeleteMeant to be! I think so many of us strive to find calm and peace and do think it is something we have to work for:)
ReplyDeleteWe DO have to be intentional about bringing peace into our lives, don't we? Ask and you shall receive. Have a peaceful week!
ReplyDeleteThat is the best story EVER! Ask, and ye shall receive.
ReplyDeletewhat a cute confirmation:)
ReplyDeletePeace is such a comforting thing at this time in our country. I hope you and your family are well.
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone is keeping all those innocent children from Newtown/Sandy Hook in your thoughts and prayers and talking with your children about what is going on out there in our world.
*Hugs to All*
Annmarie,
ReplyDeleteLove this story. Peace is within you.
Pat
:)
ReplyDeleteI can't think of the rest of the story because your opening about how you chilled with husband on the sofa with a glass of wine had made me jealous! What a lovely thing to do before bedtime! Mostly for the wine-part :D
ReplyDeleteDon't you love when God point blank answers your specific tiny little prayer?
ReplyDeleteso pretty! :) "PEACE"
