Chalk Up Another For Marriage

Yesterday, after a full day I persuaded my ever reluctant husband to do a Pilate's tape with me. When we finished, I asked him how he liked it and he diplomatically answered it was different than exercises he normally does. I said let's chill tonight and watch a red box and open a bottle of wine, and sent him and the boys to the store to get movies. He came home with Downton Abbey! When the boys were done with their movie they came to say goodnight to us and asked, "How was your movie?" My husband couldn't answer because he was asleep. But still...
He did the workout I wanted to do, instead of the workout he wanted to do and selected a movie he thought I would like, instead of choosing a movie he would like.

  7. What a lovely day. And, when My Honey (aka my husband) falls asleep and makes those sleepy noises I don't mind at all. I know where he is an what he is doing and that's just fine with me that he is enjoying a little snooze.

  8. Hubby and I rarely watch movies together, I can't hear over his snoring.

  12. I'm grateful, too, that my husband unapologetically enjoys chick flicks! However, I wouldn't be able to persuade him to do a Pilates workout with me... ;-)

  20. That is so sweet. I bet though that you watched the whole DVD even though you knew he was sleeping. Right now I am watching Downton Abby and and hubby has the football game on. We are both happy with this arrangement.

  35. what a perfect mix of give and take!

  36. Yes it all goes to show how thoughtful and sensitive we (men) are!

  37. Give and take is a great recipe for a happy marriage.

For years I've religiously watched all the period dramas as they came out. Upstairs and Downstairs, Poldark, The Onedin Line, Pride and Prejudice and The Forsyte Saga to name a few.
I've made a new years resolution not to even watch serials on the T.V and instead do something else. The problem is that when I go out with friends or the walking group all they talk about is what's happening on which particular drama. Can I win ?

  40. My husband does this often as well. Although the other day I mentioned that I'd really "like to see Les Miserables.... with my mother" to which he replied "That may be the nicest thing you've ever said to me."

  41. awww i love it---i gotta get the first two seasons of this!!

  42. Annmarie, You'd better hold tight to your husband! Maybe it's because I'm retired and time on earth is somewhat limited but I don't do too many things that I don't like doing...life is too short! Pilates...not happening. Once in awhile I will watch a non-action or comedy movie against my better judgement and I am ocassionally surprised that I actually like it. Downton Abby...no way! You definitely have yourself a great husband! My hat's off to him... Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  43. Actions speak louder than words! ;-) I would love it if my husband would do yoga with me! I always tell him how hard it is and he agrees that "it looks hard" yet he still hasn't done a class because "it's not HIS kind of workout!" If only he knew...;-)

  44. Looking back (after 28 years of marriage) I can definitely say that a great deal of what a good relationship comes down to is compromise. I think he's a keeper :)

  50. Ha! Isn't marriage great? Although in our marriage it's usually me who's asleep in front of the tv.

  51. Your husband is a hero! And I commend you for not giving him a difficult time for sleeping through the movie. :-) :-D

  52. That is a good husband. My husband started watching season 3 of Downton Abbey and loves it, total surprise! I think he likes that it has some meaning to it and he can also work while it's on and we can still be together:)
